(1) The metallic covering is impervious to moisture. <br /> (2) A lead sheath or moisture impervious jacket is provided <br /> under the metal covering. <br /> (3) The insulated conductors under the metallic covering <br /> are approved for use in wet locations. (See Section <br /> 30O-5) <br /> (b) Type AC. Metal-clad cable of the AC type may be used in <br />dry locations; for under plaster extensions as provided in <br />Article 344; and embedded in plaster finish on brick or other <br />masonry, except in damp or wet locations. This cable may be <br />run or fished in the air voids of masonry block or tile walls; <br />where such walls are exposed or subject to excessive moisture or. <br />dampness or are below grade line, Type ACL cable shall be <br />used. This cable shall contain lead covered conductors (Type <br />ACL), if used where exposed to the weather or to continuous ~ <br />moisture, for underground runs and embedded in masonry, <br />concrete or fill in buildings in course of construction, or <br />where exposed to oil, or other conditions having a deteriorating <br />effect on the insulation. Type AC metal-clad cable shall not <br />be used where prohibited elsewhere in this Code, including <br />(1) in theatres, except as provided in Section 520-4; (2) in <br />motion picture studios; (3) in any hazardous locations; <br />(4) where exposed to corrosive fumes or vapors or to weather; <br />(5) on cranes or hoists, except as provided in Section 610-11 <br />Exception No. 3; (6) in storage battery rooms; (7) in hoist- <br />ways or on elevators, except as provided in Section 620-21; <br />or (8) commercial garages where prohibited in Article 511; <br />(9) Type AC or ACL Metal-clad cable may only be used in <br />single family and duplex dwellings and their accessory building~ <br /> <br /> SECTION 41: That the Santa Ana Municipal Code is hereby <br />amended by amending Section 8-940 thereof to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 8-940. Non-Metallic Sheathed cable. <br /> Section 336-3 of the National Electrical Code, 1968 <br />Edition, is amended to read as follows: <br /> <br /> 336-3. Use. Non-metallic sheathed cable shall not be <br />used for exposed wiring and shall only be used for concealed <br />wiring on single family or duplex dwellings as follows: <br /> (a) Type NM. This type of non-metallic sheathed cable may <br />be installed for concealed work in normally dry locations. <br />It may be installed or fished in air voids in masonry block <br />or tile walls where such walls are not exposed or subject to <br />excessive moisture or dampness. Typ~ NM cable shall not be <br />installed where exposed to corrosive fumes or vapors; nor <br />shall it be embedded in masonry or concrete and covered with <br />plaster or similar finish. <br /> (b) Moisture and Corrosion-Resistant Type NMC. This type <br />of non-metallic sheathed cable may be installed for concealed <br />work in dry, moist, damp or corrosive locations, and in out- <br />side and inside walls of masonry block or tile. Where <br />embedded in plaster or run in shallow chase in masonry walls <br />and covered with plaster within 2 inches of the finished <br />surface, it shall be protected against damage from nails by <br />a cover of corrosion-resistant coated steel at least 1/16" in <br />thickness and 3/4" wide in the chase or under the final surface <br />finish. <br /> <br />-20- <br /> <br /> <br />
