ORDINANCE NS-1025 AMENDING THE SANTA ANA MUNICIPAL CODE <br />BY ADDING TO ARTICLE 4 OF CHAPTER 41 THEREOF TO <br />PROVIDE FOR REGULATION OF SIGNS WITHIN THE CITY <br />OF SANTA ANA <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Ana has <br />determined that a unified sign code would be an asset to the future <br />development of the City of Santa Ana and would, therefore, enhance <br />the general welfare of the people of the City of Santa Ana; and <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA <br />DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> SECTION 1: That Article IV of Chapter 41 of the Santa Ana <br />Municipal Code is hereby amended by adding sections 41.619 et seq <br />thereto to read in words and figures, as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 41-619. Short Title. <br /> The following sections shall be known and cited as the <br />"Sign Ordinance" of the City of Santa Ana. <br /> <br />Sec. 41-619.1. Purpose. <br /> The purpose of the Sign Ordinance is to regulate and control <br />the location, size, type, and number of signs permitted in the <br />City of Santa Ana and classify all signs permitted and to <br />regulate and control all matters relating to such signs, except <br />the construction and structural phases thereof. <br /> <br />Sec. 41-619.2. <br />ANIMATED SIGN <br /> <br />BUILDING FACADE <br /> <br />Definitions. <br /> <br />A sign with action or motion, flash- <br />ing, color changes requiring electri- <br />cal energy, electronic or <br />manufactured sources of supply, but <br />not including wind actuated elements <br />such as flags, banners, or specialty <br />items. This definition does not <br />include public service signs such as <br />time and temperature units. <br />That portion of any exterior elevationI <br />of a building extending from grade to <br />the top of the parapet wall or eaves <br />and the entire width of the building <br />elevation. <br /> <br />BUILDING FACADE FACING <br /> <br />A resurfacing of an existing facade <br />with approved material, illuminated <br />or non-illuminated. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND AREA OF SIGN <br /> <br />The entire background area of a sign <br />upon which copy could be placed. In <br />computing area of sign background, <br />only that face or those faces which <br />can be seen from any one direction at <br />one time shall be counted. <br /> <br />CHANGEABLE COPY SIGN <br /> <br />A sign which is characterized by <br />changeable copy, regardless of the <br />method of attachment. <br /> <br />-1- <br /> <br /> <br />
