ORDINANCE NS-1111 AMENDING T}{E SANTA ANA <br />MUNICIPAL CODE BY ADDING SECTION 9-169 <br />REGARDING PAYMENT FOR UNUSED SICK LEAVE <br />AND BY AMENDING SECTION 9-132 REGARDING <br />LONGEVITY VACATION <br /> <br />THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> SECTION 1: That the Santa Ana Municipal Code is hereby amended by adding <br />Section 9-169 to read in words and figures, as follows: <br /> <br />Section 9-169. Payment for Unused Sick Leave <br /> <br /> Upon retirement, an employee who meets the following conditions is <br />eligible for payment for a portion of the unused sick leave which he <br />has accumulated: (1) the employee has been credited for retirement <br />purposes with a minimum of ten years of cumulative service with the <br />City of Santa Ana; and (2) retirement under the City's contract with <br />the Public Employees' Retirement System of the State of California <br />shall be a service retirement, as distinguished from a disability <br />retirement. Such employee shall be entitled to payment for one-third <br />(1/3) of the total sick leave benefit credited to his account upon <br />his effective date of retirement and at the rate of pay effective on <br />that date. <br /> <br /> Payment may be received in either a lump sum amount, or by request <br />of the employee, payment may be deferred and distributed in equal pro- <br />portions on an annual basis for a period of up to five years. A lump <br />sum payment shall be made to the beneficiaries of any eligible employee <br />whose death occurs while an active employee of the City in the amount <br />of one-third (1/3) of the total sick leave benefit credited to his <br />account at the time of his death and at the rate of pay effective on <br />that date. <br /> <br /> SECTION 2: That Section 9-132 of the Santa Ana Municipal Code is hereby <br />amended to read in words and figures, as follows: <br /> <br />Section 9-132. Lonsevity Vacation <br /> <br /> Each permanent employee is granted additional working days of vacation <br />leave with pay for each completed year of full-time, continuous City service <br />as set forth in the following table. For uniformed members of the fire <br />department assigned to the 24-hour shift schedule, the working day granted is <br />a twelve-hour day. <br /> <br /> <br />
