ORDINANCE NO. NS-1237 <br />PAGE THREE <br /> <br />Sec. 38-1.16. Partial Stoppage. <br /> <br /> "Partial stoppage" shall mean the furnishings of less than <br />the regularly scheduled bus transportation service due to work <br />stoppage, slow down, labor dispute, or when no regular bus ser- <br />vice is scheduled during the interval between termination of o'ne <br />day's scheduled bus service and the commencement .of the next <br />day's scheduled bus serviceJ <br /> <br /> Sec. 38-1.17. <br /> <br /> "Passenger for <br />vehicle for hire for <br /> <br />Passenger for hire. <br /> <br />hire" shall mean a. person transported <br />compensation or other consideration. <br /> <br />in a' <br /> <br />Sec. 38-1.18. Pick up. <br /> <br />"Pick up" shall mean to take into a vehicle. <br />Sec. 38-1.18a. Safety Inspection Sticker. <br /> <br />by <br /> and found to be in <br /> <br /> Sec. 38-1.19. <br /> <br /> "Safety Inspection Sticker" shall mean a sticker affixed <br />a vehicle for hire evidencing that it has been inspected <br />the Santa Ana Police Department or California Highway Patrol <br /> safe operating, condition. <br /> <br />Solicit. <br /> <br /> "Solicit" shall mean to endeavor to obtain a passenger for <br />hire by words or gestures. <br /> <br />Sec. 38-1.20. Street. <br /> <br /> "Street" shall mean any place commonly used for the purpose <br />Of public travel. <br /> <br />Sec. 38-1.21. Taxicab. <br /> <br /> "Taxicab" shall mean any motor vehicle used in the business <br />of transportation of passengers for hire,where transportation is <br />not over a fixed and definite route, but is under the control <br />as to destination and/or route, of the passenger or passengers <br />being carried therein. <br /> <br />Sec. 38-1.22. Taxicab terminal. <br /> <br /> "Taxicab terminal" shall mean any office, station, build- <br />i~g, stand, substation or other place of business..of a holder <br />at which calls are or may be received from prospective passen- <br />gers.for hire and from which the holder or his agents or em- <br />ployees direct the dispatch and return of taxicabs. <br /> <br />Sec. 38-1.23. Taximeter. <br /> <br /> "Taximeter" shall mean any mechanical instrument, appliance, <br />device or machine by which the charge for hire of a motor vehicle <br />is mechanically calculated, either for distance traveled or time <br />consumed, or both, and on said instrument, appliance, device or <br />machine such charge is indicated by figures. <br /> <br /> Sec. 38-1.24. Top light. <br /> <br /> "Top light" shall'mean an electrically <br />lights of a color and design approved by the <br /> <br />operated sign with <br />chief of police. <br /> <br /> Sec. ~38-1.25. Total stoppage. <br /> <br /> "Total stoppage" shall mean, the complete halting of bus <br />transportation service furnished within the City of Santa Ana <br />resulting from a labor strike or a disaster. <br /> <br /> <br />
