NS- ] 516 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA <br />AMENDING SECTION 9-91 OF THE SANTA ANA <br />MUNICIPAL CODE TO PROVIDE FOR A ONE-YEAR <br />PROBATIONARY PERIOD FOR PEACE OFFICERS. <br /> <br /> THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA DOES <br />ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> SECTION 1: That Section 9-91 of the Santa Ana <br />Municipal Code is amended to read as follows: <br /> <br /> The probationary period shall be one year from the <br />date of appointment from a reappointment or open eligible <br />list and six (6) months from the date of appointment from a <br />promotional eligible list; provided, however, that the <br />probationary period shall be one year, in all cases, from <br />the date of appointment to a position in that classification <br />of positions in the Police Department in which an employee <br />initially becomes or, in the regular course of employment, <br />will become authorized to exercise the powers of a peace <br />officer in other than a supervised training capacity. <br />Absences totaling fifteen (15) days or more during a probationary <br />period shall extend the probationary period the total length <br />of time of such absences. <br /> <br /> SECTION 2: The purpose and effect of the <br />amendment hereinabove set forth is to preserve the existing <br />probationary period for the classification of positions in <br />the Santa Ana Police Department currently designated as <br />"Patrolman," regardless of whether appointments to said <br />position are hereafter made from reappointment, open, or <br />promotional eligible lists. <br /> <br />the <br /> <br /> ADOPTED this 3rd day of December , 1979, by <br />following vote: <br /> <br /> AYES: COUNCILMEN: Bricken, Griset, Luxembourger, Markel, <br /> Serrato, Ward, Yamamoto <br /> NOES: COUNCILMEN: None <br /> <br />ABSENT: COUNCILMEN: None <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />APPROVED AS TO FORM: <br /> <br />KEITH L.
