NS-1659 <br /> <br /> AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AMENDING <br /> THE SANTA ANA MUNICIPAL CODE BY ADDING SECTIONS <br /> 9-35.1, 9-37.1, 9-45, 9-118, 9-119; AMENDING <br /> SECTIONS 9-36, 9-67, 9-69, 9-90, 9-91, 9-118.1, <br />9-118.2, 9-118.4, AND REPEALING SECTION 9-118.7 RELA- TING TO PERSONNEL MATTERS; AND DECLARING THE OR- <br />DINANCE TO BE EFFECTIVE ONLY IF PROPOSITION "S" IS <br />ADOPTED BY THE VOTERS OF THE CITY ON NOVEMBER 2, 1982 <br /> <br /> THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA DOES <br />ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> SECTION 1. That the Santa Ana Municipal <br />hereby'amended by adding a section, to be numbered <br />which section reads as follows: <br /> <br />Code is <br />9-35.1, <br /> <br />Sec. 9-35.1. Promotions. <br /> <br /> Vacancies in positions of {he higher classes <br />in the civil service of the city shall, as far as <br />practicable, be filled by promotion of employees <br />occupying positions of lower classes having duties <br />and responsibilities which can reasonably be con- <br />sidered as affording training and experience for <br />the performance of the duties of the higher class; <br />provided that the city manager, with the approval <br />of the personnel board, may hold examinations for <br />positions of such higher classes on the basis of <br />open competitive examinations or both open and <br />promotional competitive examinations in the manner <br />provided in the civil service rules and regulations. <br />Eligibility for promotional examination shall be <br />subject to civil service rules and regulations. <br /> <br /> SECTION 2. That Section 9-36 of the Santa Ana <br />Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 9-36. Promotional. <br /> <br /> Promotions shall be based on competitive <br />examination. The examinations shall be open, pro- <br />motional, or both open and promotional.
