REL:a~g <br />5/9/83 <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. NS-1683 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA <br />ADDING SECTIONS 33-5, 33-6, 33-7, AND <br />33-8 TO THE SANTA ANA MUNICIPAL CODE <br />AND AMENDING SECTION 34-66 THEREOF, TO <br />PROVIDE PROCEDURES FOR THE NAMING AND <br />RENAMING OF STREETS AND OTHER PUBLIC <br />FACILITIES <br /> <br /> THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA DOES <br />ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />SECTION 1: That the Santa Ana Municipal Code <br />amended by adding a section, to be numbered 33-5, <br />section reads as follows: <br /> <br />is hereby <br />which said <br /> <br />Sec. 33-5 <br /> <br />Names of streets and other public <br />facilities Submittal of requests. <br /> <br /> Requests for the naming or renaming of streets, public <br />buildings, parks or recreational facilities owned or <br />controlled by the city, except proposals initiated by the <br />city council or the planning commission, shall be submitted <br />in writing to the director of planning and development <br />serv ices. <br /> <br />SECTION 2: That the Santa Ana Municipal Code is hereby <br />amended by adding a section, to be numbered 33-6, which said <br />section reads as follows: <br /> <br />See. 33-6. <br /> <br />Same - Decision by planning commission <br /> <br /> Ail requests for the naming or renaming of any public <br />street, public building, park or recreational facility shall <br />be referred to the planning commission for determination. <br />The planning commission may approve the name proposed, <br />approve it with modifications or approve a different name. <br />In reaching its decision the planning commission shall give <br />consideration to the following policy guidelines: <br /> <br /> (a) Any street which is a continuation of, or <br />approximately the continuation of, any existing street <br />should be given the same name as the already existing <br />street, in the absence of other overriding considerations. <br /> <br /> (b) Streets and other public facilities should <br />not be given names which would cause confusion with other <br />streets or public facilities. <br /> <br /> <br />
