Sec. 101.1 Wards of the City. <br /> <br /> Prior to the general election in 1988 the city council <br />shall divide the city into six (6) wards by ordinance accord- <br />ing to the following formula: <br /> <br /> Each of the wards is to be as nearly equal <br /> in population as possible. The wards shall <br /> be composed of contiguous and compact <br /> territory and bounded by natural boundaries <br /> or street lines wherever possible. Any <br /> territory hereafter annexed to or consolidated <br /> with the city shall become a part of the ward <br /> to which it is most contiguous, pending any <br /> redistricting necessary to promote equality <br /> <br /> of population among the wards. <br /> <br />Sec. 400. Number, selection and terms of members. <br /> <br /> The city council shall consist of seven (7) members <br />elected at the times and in the matter provided in this <br />charter, each of whom, except for the Mayor, shall serve a <br />term of four (4) years. The term of each member shall <br />begin following such election, at the first regularly <br />scheduled meeting of the city council following certifica- <br />tion of election results, and each shall serve except as <br />otherwise provided for in this charter, until his successor <br />is elected and qualified.
