M. <br /> <br />City Council met in regular adjourned session. <br />Meeting called to order by Mayor Witmer.. <br /> <br />Present: Trustees J. L. McBride, E. G. Warner, <br /> Wm. H. Protest. <br /> <br /> A communication from James Sleeper, County Assessor, <br /> was presented, in which he advised that on account of <br /> the depreciation in property values, a material <br /> reduction in assessed values for 1933 will be made. <br /> <br /> On motion of Trustee Warner, seconded by Penn and <br /> carried, communication was referred to a Committee to <br /> report back - Trustee Penn and City Auditor Banks being <br /> appointed as such Comittee. <br /> <br /> Application of Ruth ffenkins for a permit to possess, <br /> sell and dispose of light wine and beer at her place of <br /> business, 1208 South Main Street, if and when same is <br /> lawful so to do, was read. A motion was made by <br /> <br /> Trustee McBride and seconded by Warner that application <br /> be referred to Police Commissioner and Chief of Police <br /> but motion was withdrawn upon presentation by Police <br /> Com~issioner Warner of report covering a similar appli- <br /> cation previously made by L. J. Detrixhe of 405 N. Main <br /> Street. In this report it was pointed out that the <br /> <br />Local Option law of 1901 has not been repealed; that <br />there is a city ordinance No. 68~ which prohibits sale <br />of intoxicating liquor and at recent election Santa Ana <br />~oted against repeal ~f Wright Act by a majority of 2261 <br />On motion of Trustee Warner, seconded by McBride and <br />carried, applications of L. J. Detrixhe and Ruth Jenkins <br />for permits to handle liquor were denied. <br /> <br /> On motion of Trustee McBride seconded by Warner and <br /> carried, City Clerk was instructed to notify applicants <br /> of the denial of their applications for liquor permits. <br /> <br />A petition signed by thirty-two business men was pre- <br />sented, in which the Council was requested to allow the <br />Santa Aha Merchants Ball Club to use the Municipal Bowl <br />for playing the Southern California Winter League games <br />and containing a financial rental proposition. A protea~ <br />against granting permission for use of the Bowl for <br />Sunday sports was presented from' the Ministerial <br /> <br /> <br />
