<br /> On motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Chandler and carried,
<br /> resignation of Ralph J. Mitchell, as member of the Civil Service
<br /> Commission, was accepted with regrets and Clerk authorized to
<br /> write letter of appreciation for his services.

<br />/leave of absence was granted,With pay, to Wayne Gross in order to
<br />
<br /> attend California State Firemen's Convention at Santa Cruz, to be
<br /> held Sept. 20th to E3rd inclusive.

<br /> On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Mandy and carried, request
<br /> of E.L.Heiss for sick leave beginning August 17th, 1948, for an
<br /> indefinite period, due to illness of his Mother, was received and
<br /> filed.

<br /> On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Mandy and carried, Personne
<br /> Dept. was instructed to issue to each Department Head, within one
<br /> month's time, an up-to-date copy of Rules and Regulations Governin
<br /> Civil Service.

<br /> Communication was read from Santa Ana Lodge No. 794, B.P.O.E.
<br /> enclosing check in the amount of $272.50 representing proceeds of

<br />benefit baseball game,

<br /> rates of pay of the five laborers in the Street and Garage Depot.

<br /> in the examinations prior to May 24th, 1948, and starting at
<br /> $210.00 per month for the first six months and $225.00 per month
<br /> thereafter.

<br /> Communication was read from Civil Service Board advising that no
<br /> provision had been made for holiday compensation pay for Fire
<br /> Department personnel and on motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by
<br /> Chandler and'carried, Fire Commissioner was appointed, as a
<br /> committee 'of one, to check with Departments and make recommendatio
<br /> to the Board.

<br /> Communication was read from Indoor Sports, Club, Inc. requesting
<br /> that a ramp be built on the northeast corner of Birch Park, and on
<br /> motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Reed and carried, matter was
<br /> ,r. eferred to Park Commissioner with power to act.
<br /> Communication was read from Jennie L. Hantsbarger requesting that
<br /> a pedestrian 'crossing be established at Booth and First Streets,
<br /> and on motion of Trustee Mandy, seco nded by Chandler and carried,
<br /> Clerk was authorized to forward copy of report of Chief of Police
<br /> to Mrs. Hantsbarger.

<br />Communication was read from Charles Linger requesting driveway
<br />permitting parking of nine cars off the street at proposed motel
<br />on the corner of 17th and Durant Streets, and on motion of Trustee
<br />Mandy, seconded by Reed and carried, request was referred to Trust,
<br />Cheney and Engineer for checking and report back.
