City Council met for a special meeting for the purpose to authorize the Mayor to sign escrow instructions and adopt a Resolution Accepting Deed from J.E. Prentice covering approximately ten acres of land for park purposes. Council Chamber Santa Ana City Hall May 19, 1949. 5:0~ P.M. ~eeting called to order by Mayor Smith. Present: Trustees Courtney R. Chandler, Allen A. Mandy, Virgil H. Reed, R. Carson Smith. Absent: Trustees In Re Escrow Instructions W. J. Cheney Escrow instructions were read by the Clerk and on motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Mandy and carried, the Mayor was authorized to execute escrow instructions and City of Santa Aha to accept the Grant Deed covering approximately twelve acres of property described as that portion of Lot A of the Stafford and Tusti~ Tract, as per map thereof recorded in Book 2, at Page 818 of Miscellaneous Records of Los Angeles County, California, lying easterly of the westerly curb line of Mabury Street extended southerly from First Street to Main Street, across said Lot A of In Re Resol. No. 378? Accepting Grant Deed Stafford and Tustin Tract. On motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Mandy and carried, the following Resolution entitled: "Resolution Accepting Grant Deed" from J. E. Prentice, conveying to the City that portion of Lot A In Re iGift Tax In Re Letter of thanks In Re Present ation of golden key of the Stafford and Tustin Tract, for public park purposes, valued at approximately $80,000.00, was read, considered, designated Resolution No. 378~ and passed by the following vote: Ayes, Trustees Courtney R. Chandler, Allen A. Mandy, Virgil H. Reed, R. Carson Smith. Noes, Trustees None Absent, Trustees W.J.Cheney On motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Chandler and carried, if at any time before or after the transaction is consummated, the Federal Government shall declare a Gift Tax payable to them on the property presented to the City by J. E. Prentice, for public park purposes, then the City shall assume and pay such obligation. ,, On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Chandler and carried, the Clerk was instructed to write a letter of thanks, on behalf of the Council and people of Santa Aha, to J. E. Prentice, for the gift of property which will be known as "Prentice Park". On motion of TruStee Chandler, seconded by Mandy and carried, a golden key was presented to J.E.Prentice, as a token of the Cityts appreciation of the park donation.
