RESOLUTION NO. ~7~316 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF SANTA ANA, <br />CALIFORNIA, URGING THAT ORANGE COUNTY BE OFFICIALLY <br />DESIGNATED AS ONE OF ~HE "STANDARD METROPOLITAN AREAS" <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Orange County, California has heretofore and is now <br />included as a part of the "Los Angeles-Long Beach Metropolitan Ar®&"; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Employment of the State of California <br />has now included Ora~ ge County as a part of the title in certain em- <br /> <br /> as follows: "Los Angeles-Long Beach-0ral ge County <br /> <br />ployment reports, <br /> <br />Labor Market Area <br /> WHEREAS, si <br /> <br /> shment of "Standard Metropolitan <br />Areas" in 19~0, the list has been expanded for areas qualifying for <br />recognition; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the County now has a population of more than 600,000 <br />and 500,000 of these people live in the central part of Orange County <br />on the floor of the Santa Aha River Basin, a rapidly growing metro- <br />politan and industrial area, and an area in which the population <br />growth is greater than any similar area in the United States; and <br /> <br /> WHEP~AS, this rapid growth in population and the rapid growth <br />of the industrial plant~, principally by new location, entitles Orange <br />County to be classed as a separate metropolitan area in Federal <br />Goverr~nent Reports for the benefit of not only said County, but for <br />the benefit of business and industry generally; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of the <br />City of Santa Aha, California, petition and request the Bureau of <br />the Budget, ~ne Committee on Standard Metropolita~ Areas, and the <br />Office of the President of the United States to immediately recognize <br />Orange County as one of the "Standard Metropolitan Areas" of the <br />nat i on. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOT~VED: That copies of this Resolution be sent <br />to said three offices, to the Honorable Thomas H. Kuchel and William <br />F. Knowland, United States Senators from this State, the Honorable <br />James B. Utt, Representative in Congress from this District, and we <br /> <br /> <br />
