RESOLUTION 64-136 DESIGNATING "SARAH MAY DOWNIE <br />MEMORIAL HERB GARDEN" AS THE OFFICIAL NAME FOR <br />THE SANTA ANA PUBLIC HERB GARDEN <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, for many years the Orange County Herb Society, <br />with permission from the City of Santa Ana, maintained a public <br />herb garden on City-owned land on North Flower Street in Santa <br />Ana; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, on August 12, 1954, Sarah May Downie, then <br />president of the Herb Society, was killed in an automobile <br />accident, but the Society continued to maintain the herb garden <br />as a living memorial to Mrs. Downie until 1960 when the Society <br />disbanded; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the maintenance of the herb garden was assumed <br />by the Santa Aha Junior Gardeners as a continuing project and as <br />a living memorial to Mrs. Downie; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, since the herb garden has been maintained for the <br />past ten years as a tribute and living memorial to Mrs. Downie <br />and her efforts, official designation of the garden as a living <br />memorial to her would serve to give public notice of the fact and <br />bring significance to the garden; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the public herb <br />garden on North Flower Street in Santa Ana at the intersection of <br />North Park Boulevard and Riverside Drive, be and it is hereby <br />designated and proclaimed a living memorial to Sarah May Downie, <br />to be hereafter known as the "SARAH MAY DOWNIE MEMORIAL HERB GARDEN". <br /> <br /> PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Santa <br />Ana at its regular meeting held on the 8th day of September, 1964. <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />CL~RK OF THE COUNCIL <br /> <br />STATE OF CALIFORNIA) <br />COUNTY OF ORANGE ) <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA ) <br /> <br />SS <br /> <br /> I, DORIS M.
