RESOLUTION 65-23 ORDERING THAT A PROPOSITION <br />BE SUBMITTED TO THE ELECTORS OF THE CITY AT <br />THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE CALLED <br />AND TO BE HELD ON APRIL 6, 1965, TO AMEND <br />SECTION 402 OF THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA TO INCREASE THE SALARY OF THE <br />COUNCI~4EN AND OF THE i~AYOR <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the size of the City of Santa Aha has considerably <br />increased and the problems confronting the City Government have <br />become more numerous and more complex with each passing month, so <br />that the demands upon the time of the members of the City Council <br />and the requirements of attendance at meetings of various sorts have <br />nearly doubled in the past two years, requiring expenditures for <br />transportation and for other things which must be paid by the <br />Council members so that the existing salary of $125.00 per month is <br />no longer adequate, sufficient, or, in fact, any compensation for <br />the services now rendered by Councilmen; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council, on <br />its own motion, hereby authorizes and directs that a proposition be <br />submitted to the electors of the City proposing amendment of <br />Section 402 of the Charter of the City of Santa Ana to provide a <br />monthly compensation of each member of the City Council of $200.00 <br />and the member elected by the City Council as Mayor to receive an <br />additional amount of $100.00 each month, and that said Section be <br />amended so that the same will read as follows: <br /> <br />"SECTION 402. CITY COUNCIL: COMPENSATION OF M~BERS. <br />Each member of the City Council shall receive as compensa- <br />tion for his services as such a monthly salary in the sum of <br /> TWO Hundred Dollars ($ 200.00 ). <br />%~e member elected by the City Council to fill the office of <br />Mayor shall receive the additional amount of One Hundred <br />Dollars ($ 100.00 .) for each month said member shall fill <br />the office of Mayor. Further, each member of the City Council <br />shall receive reimbursement for required tragel and other <br />expenses while on official business of the City as authorized <br />and approved by the City Council. <br /> Absence of a member of the City Council from all regular <br />and special meetings of the City Council during any calendar <br />month shall render him ineligible to receive the monthly <br />salary for such a calendar month unless by permission of the <br />City Council expressed in its official minutes." <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the proposition to be <br />upon the ballot for submission to the electors of the City <br />words and figures as follows: <br /> <br />placed <br />be in the <br /> <br />Shall the Charter of the City of Santa Ana: <br />be amended by amending Section 402 thereof : <br />to provide that each member of the City : <br />Council shall receive $200.00 each month : <br />as compensation for his services and the : <br />member elected by the City Council to fill : <br />the office of Mayor shall receive an : <br />additional amount each month of $100.00 ? : <br /> <br />YES : : <br /> <br />NO : : <br /> : : <br /> <br /> The Clerk of the Council is hereby directed to print the <br />proposed amendment to the Charter of the City of Santa Ana once in <br />a newspaper of general circulation in the City, and in all the <br />editions thereof issued during the day of publication, not less than <br />40 days nor more than 60 days before said election; to publish notice <br />inviting arguments against said proposition; to cause said amendment <br />to be printed together with arguments for and against said proposition, <br />and cause a copy thereof, enclosed in an envelope with sample ballot, <br /> <br /> <br />
