<br /> Ail concrete for re-inforced concrete construction must be
<br /> m~xed in a machine which mixes one complete batch at a time. Ail
<br /> concrete shall be thoroughly mixed to a homogeneous mass before
<br /> being placed in the forms. Hand mixing may be used, provided ten
<br /> per cent more cement is used than would be required by machine
<br /> mixing.
<br /> The concrete must be of such proportions that it will resist
<br />a crushing strain og two thousand pounds per square inch, after
<br />hardening for twenty-eight days, but for reinbrced or plain
<br />concrete columns, the mixture shall not be leaner than one ~part of
<br />cement, three of sand, and five of the coarser aggregates in any
<br />case. In case where the building inspector is in doubt as to these
<br />requirements being met, he may compel tests to be made at the
<br />expense of the builder.
<br /> Section 15. Mill constructed buildings to meet requirements
<br />of Class 'B" shall have exterior walls of masonry or other fireproof
<br />material and must meet tbs following minimum requirements for
<br />interior construction. Ail interior loads shall be carried on post
<br />and girder construction, minimum size of post 10 inches square,
<br />except those supporting roof, which may be 8" square, minimum width
<br />of floor girders ten inches, roof girders 8" floor beams 6",
<br />minimum depth beams and girders 10"
<br /> Floors to be solid, constructed not less than 2" thick,
<br />planking tongued and grooved or splined. Floor beams must rest on
<br />top of girders or on iron or steel plates in walls. Girders shall
<br />rest on iron or steel plates in walls, and on iron or s reel caps at
<br />columns, or in case of wood construction on heavy wood corbels,
<br />girders and joists to be self releasing at wall bearings. Columns
<br />girders cr beams of iron or steel shall be fire proofed with metal
<br />lath and plaster, or other approved material. Hoof shall be 2 inch
<br />planking and covered with metal or other approved incombustible
<br />roof covering. Partitions shall be of thee-inch planking, metal
<br />lath and plaster or of incombustible material. Other features of
<br />construction must meet class "C" requirements.
<br /> Section 16. Slow burning construction shall be constructed
<br />as meaning any building which would meet the requirements of a clams
<br />"C" building, but having column and girder construction, and all
<br />parts of the columns, girders, ceilings and partitions entirely
<br />covered with metal lath and plaster, tile or similar incombustible
<br />material so applied as ~ot to be easily dislodged, and having all
<br />floors double, when less than 2" planking is used.
<br /> Section 17. For the purpose cf this ordinance, the follow-
<br />ing definitions shall be accepted as correct unless it is apparent
<br />from the context that they are used with another meaning. Any change or ad&~tion.
<br /> The re-construction or renewal of any existing part of
<br />~ building.
<br /> A wall used or built to be used in common by two buildings
<br />owned by different parties.
<br /> Any wa~l which extends the full height of the building and
<br />through the roof, other than an exterior wall or party wall, and
<br />such walls must meet the requirements for a bearing wall.
<br /> Any interior wall in the building other than division wall.
<br />
<br /> A wall carrying any part of the load of the building.
<br /> Every outer wall or vertical enclosure of building other
<br />than a party or division wall.
<br /> The minimum thickness cf a wall between floors, or between
<br />floors and ceilings of roof.
<br /> The lower story which is below the general ~vel of the
<br />surface of the street or streets on which it faces, or below the
<br />general level of the ground, for more than one-half its height.
<br /> The lower story which is below the level of~e street
<br />or streets on which it faces, or below the general level of the
<br />ground, for less than one-half and more than one quarter of its
<br />height.
<br /> The distance from the top of one floor to the top of
<br />the floor next above, except in the case of the top story, whose
<br />height shall be measured from top of floor to underside of ceiling
<br />Joists The lower story shall be considered a story and not a
<br />basement when threefourths of its height is above the ~erage level
<br />of the street or streets on which it fronts.
<br /> Brick, tile, stone, terra cotta, concrete or reinforced
<br />concrete.
<br /> A building maintained for the residence of not more than
<br />three families.
