between the wood-work establishment and'the boiler room, but <br />the boiler room shall be separated from such establishment by <br />a solid masonry wall, extending clear through and not less <br />than 2' O' above the roof. <br /> No building shall be erected or used for the <br />purpose of stabling animals, above the first or floor ground <br />unless the building be be of a class "A" construction. <br /> No person or persons shall establish, conduct, <br />maintain or uae any place or premises as a public garage or <br />private garage where more than two machines are kept, without <br />first obtaining a permit in writing therefor from the super- <br />intendent of buildings after permission shall have been given <br />by the chief of the fire department. <br /> Every building hereafter erected, and every build- <br />ing hereafter altered or changed for use as a public ~arage <br />shall be of class A,B or C construction, as defined by the <br />Ordinance of the City of Santa Ana, regulating construction or <br />alteration of buildings. <br /> The flooring of the first floor of any such build- <br />ing shall be constructed of concrete with a system of ventila- <br />tion having openings to the outer air at floor line not less <br />than 6 X g inches, for each ventilator. Where any floor other <br />than the first floor shall be used for a garage purpose such <br />floor shall be of non-combustible material and of such con- <br />struction as shall be satisfactory to the building inspector <br />and the chief of the fire department. <br /> It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or <br />corporation to erect, construct or maintain any outbuilding <br />within fire district No.1 unless the same is class A, ClassB <br />or Class C construction, provided that such an outbuilding <br />is no more than 12 feet and having an area of not more than <br />400 square feet, may be constructed with g inch masonry walls <br />composition roof or other incombustible roof. <br /> It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or <br />corporation to erect, construct or maintain any shed within <br />fire dstrict No.1 with exterior wals composed in whole or in <br />part of wood, or by the use of any wood or corrugated iron <br />fence to form any wall or part of any outer wall for such <br />sheds, and provided further, that no protecting roof shall <br />be supported by any such fence. <br /> Temporary sheds not exceeding 20 feet in <br />height may be erected within the fire limits to facilitate <br />the erection of buildings, but must be removed when the build- <br />ings are completed. But no person shall erect, maintain or <br />occupy any tent or movable structure of any kind whatsoever <br />within the fire limits of the City of Santa Ana, except vans <br />or stands mounted on wheels, for the purpose of the sale of <br />goods which may be permitted if special license therefor is <br />g~anted by the board of trustees. <br /> All buildings used for factory purposes where <br />more than 25 persons are employed above the second floor, <br />must be at least class "C" construction, and at least one <br />stairway must be enclosed with masonry walls or with stud <br />partitions, metal lathed and plastered on both sides. All <br />doors entering such enclosure shall be self-closing fire <br />doors. Glass in all windows of such enclosure must be wire <br />glass set in metal frames and sash. Landings must be pro- <br />vided within this enclosure at the head and foot of each <br />flight of stairs equal in width to the stairway and doors <br />must open on this landing and not on the stairs themselves. <br />Stairways must otherwise meet the requirements as laid down <br />in Sec. 24, (See Page 4?). <br /> Public buildings or any buildings used for the <br />gathering of a large number of people must meet the require- <br />ments as to seating facilities, means of entrance and exit, <br />stairs and aisles as laid down for theaters. <br /> Clothes cleaning establishments, so called where <br />gasoline, naphtha, or other explosive fluid is used or stored <br />in greater quantities than one gallon, shall not be allowed <br />within the fire limits and whenever any such establishment is <br />conducted anywhere within the City, every room where such work <br />is carried on must have the walls and ceiling of masonry or <br />mats.1 lath and plastered and automatic sprinklers must be in- <br />stalled in such rooms. <br /> California houses of board and batten con- <br />struction so called must not be constructed over one story <br />or 12' O" high in any part of outside walls, but the second <br />story of a residence may be constructed in this way, provided <br />the lower story is made of stud or post and girder construction. <br />Residences less than two stories or 40 feet in height may <br />be of class "D" construction. <br /> Hotels and lodging houses (See Statutes Ca1.1915). <br />Apartment houses must meet the requiremets of the State Tenement <br />House Act.
