Cement Sidewalk Construction. <br /> <br /> Cement sidewalk shall be placed upon a thoroughly dampened <br />prepared and gauged as hereinbefore described. <br /> <br /> (a) DIMENSIONS. Unless otherwise specified on the plans, <br />shall be of the following widths and total thickne~sess. <br /> <br />subgrade, <br />all sidewalks <br /> <br /> Sidewa~lks on residential streets shall be. five (S) feet in width and <br />three and one-half (3½) inches in thickness. <br /> <br /> Sidewalks fronting business houses shall be the fuZ]. width between the <br />property line and the back face of the curb, and fort. (4) inches in thickness. <br /> <br /> All.sidewalks cros~ng driveways shall be equal in width to the adjoining <br />sideWalks, and flve~(5) inches in thickness. <br /> <br />of the <br />street <br /> <br /> The sidewalk shall cover the entire area included within the prolongation <br />side lines of the intersecting str~ets and the curbs and curb returns at all <br />intersections, unless otherwise specified or shown on the plans. <br /> <br /> (b) SIDEWALK SLOPE. The finished surface of the cement sidewalks'shall <br />lle in a pl~ne sloping up from the established grade at the curb line at the rate <br />of three (3) inches in twelve (12) feet, unless otherwise specified or ~own on the <br />plans. <br /> <br /> (c) FORMS. Strips used as side forms shall be not less than one and <br />three-fourths (1-3~4) inches.in thickness nor less than the thickness of the side- <br />walk, and shall have a smooth straight upper edge. Ail side forms shall be well <br />staked or otherwise held to the established line and grade, and their upper s~face <br />shall,conform with the, finished surface of the sidewalk. <br /> <br />The forms shall.be thoroughly cleaned before being used. <br /> <br /> (d) PLACING CONCRETE. Concrete, machine or hand mixed as hereinbefore <br />.~escribed, shall be spread upon the.subgrade between the side'fo~ms and thoroughly <br />tamped until.the concrete is compacted. The surface of the concrete must ~e:smooth <br />and uniform and shall b.e tested for grade with a guage n~ ched at each end and <br />extending one-half (~) inch below the tops of the side fom~ms. <br /> <br /> (e) ~E~RING SURPACE AND FINISH. The finish mortar shall be applied with- <br />in thirty (30) minutes after the concrete has.been placed~ and thoroughly troweled <br />in. Sufficient mortar shall be used to produce a wearing surface not less than <br />one-half (~) inch in thickness at any place. The 'surface shall then be troweled, <br />retrow~ted~ jointed or marked into squares and polished. Between grade changes, <br />the finished walk shall show an even, true surface va2ying less than one-fourth (~) <br />inch from a five (8) foot straight edge.. <br /> <br /> (f) MARKING, For sidewalks five (8) feet in width, the surface shall be <br />Jointed or marked into two and one-half (2~) foot squares. Pot other widths of <br />sidewalks, the squares shall not be larger than ten (10) square feet in area. <br /> <br /> ~g) EXP~SION JOINT. Expansion jo~.nts constricted as hereinbefore <br />specified shall be placed on the produced property lines at returns and at the <br />sections of all other walks on the property side, unless otherwise shown or <br />specified. <br /> <br />intern <br /> <br /> (h) CON&TRUCT,ION JOINTS.
