RESOLUTION 65-183 DECLARING NECESSITY FOR AND <br />REQUESTING "ON" AND "OFF" RAMPS TO CONNECT <br />SO~H ~IN STREET IN SANTA ANA WITH THE <br />NEWPORT FREEWAY <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, after many years of Planning, the Orange County <br />Civic Center has been established adjacent to Main Street in Santa <br />Ana and millions of dollars have been spend in the acquisition of <br />land and in architectural and planning studies; the new multistory <br />court house is programed to start construction in 1966, to be <br />followed by a new jail and numerous other buildings, parking areas <br />and structures; the acquisition of land is continuing for the <br />location of a new city hall and sites for State and Federal <br />buildings in the hope that both the State and Federal governments <br />will locate their new structures in this expanding Civic Center <br />area; streets are being~widened and extended and new streets are <br />being located and constructed to allow vehicular access to and from <br />this governmental Civic Center; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, direct access south to Newport Beach and to the <br />Coast Highway is as important as access to the north, east, and west, <br />and this access can be most easily provided by "on" and "off" ramps <br />to connect the southerly end of Main Street in Santa Ana with the <br />Newport Freeway. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA that this Council hereby requests the California <br />Highway Commission and the Division of Highways of the Department <br />of Public Works of the State of California to provide a southbound <br />"on" ramp to connect South Main Street, near its intersection with <br />the Newport Freeway, to the southbound lanes of said Freeway, and <br />to provide a northbound "off" ramp from the Newport Freeway to <br />Redhill Avenue to afford.vehicular access northbound to the Civic <br />Center and southbound from the Civic Center of Orange County. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That said "on" and "off" ramps be <br />designed and constructed as a part of 'the interchange between the <br />San Diego Freeway and the Newport Freeway to provide these necessary <br />vehicular links to the governmental center of Orange County, the <br />most rapidly growing area in the United States of America. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: %~at copies of this Resolution be <br />sent to the California Highway Commission, the Division of Highways <br />of the Department of Public Works of the State of California, and <br />to the District Engineer of District VII, Department of Highways, <br />Post Office Box 2304, Los Angeles 54, California. <br /> <br /> PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Santa <br />Ana at its regular meeting held on the 6th day of December, 1965. <br /> <br />CLERK OF T~E COUNCIL <br /> <br />STA'i'E OF CALIFORNIA) <br />COUNTY OF ORANGE ) SS <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA ) <br /> I, DORIS M.
