2S4 <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. 957 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE GOVERNING THE ERECTION, CON- <br />STRUCTION AND REPAIRING OF AWNINGS PRO- <br />JECTING OVER PUBLIC SIDEWALKS WITHIN THE <br />CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA. <br /> <br /> The City Council of the City of Santa Ana ordains as follows: <br /> Section l: That the erection, construction and repairing of awnings <br /> projecting over the public sidewalks within the City of Santa Ana, shall be subJec' <br /> to the conditions, regulations and restrictions herein set forth, and it shall <br /> be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to erect, construct, and or repair <br /> any awnings which project over public sidewalks within the City of Santa Ana, <br /> unless the conditions, regulations and restrictions herein are complied with. <br /> <br /> Section 2: That any person, firm or corporation, before erecting, con- <br /> structlng, and or repairing any awning or awnings projecting over the public side- <br /> walks within the City limits of Santa Ana, shall make application for a permit to <br /> the BuildingDepartment of the City of Santa Aha, giving description, length and <br /> location of such awning or awnings. <br /> <br /> CONSTRUCTION OF AWNINGS <br /> <br /> Every awning or covering erected, constructed or maintained over any <br />public sidewalk or part thereof, shall be constructed of canva~ on a metal frame, <br />which frame shall be attached to a building and so constructed that it can readily <br />be rolled back against said building. Every canvas, awning or covering which <br />projects over any public sidewalk shall, when lowered, be at least seven feet six <br />inches above such sidewalk at its lowest point and not project more than seven <br />feet from the face of the building or over the sidewalk immediately in front of <br />such building. It is provided, however, that a hanging border may drop verticall <br />from such canvas, awning or covering, to a point not less than six feet six inches <br />above the sidewalk at its lowest point. Awnings supported wholly by the canvas <br />or ropes of such awnings must be equipped with galvanized steel chains of sufficie~ <br />strength to hold awnings at regulated height, said chains to be placed at each <br />end and at intervening points twelve feet apart along such awning. Awnings <br />equipped with folding steel arms may have facing strips of wood with which to <br />attach to canvas, but any other framing which overhangs the sidewalk must be of <br />metal. <br /> <br /> INSPECTION <br /> <br /> All applicants who have installed awnings shall notify the Building <br />Inspector to inspect the same, said inspection to be made within forty-eight hours <br />from the time of notice, and if said awning measures up to the requirements of <br />this ordinance, a Certificate of Inspection shall be made out in triplicate, one <br />copy thereof to be given to the owner, one copy to the firm who installed the <br />awning, and one of said certificates to remain at the Building Inspector's office <br />for future reference. <br /> <br /> Section 8: Any person violating any provision of this ordinance shall <br />be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof shall be punished <br />by a fine of not mope than Fifty Dollars ($80.00), or by imprisonment in the <br />County Jail for a period of not more than thirty (50) days, or by both such fine <br />and imprisonment. <br /> <br /> <br />
