322 <br /> <br /> ORDINANCE NO. 977 <br /> <br /> AN ORDINANCE PEOHIBITING INTER]~ERENCE ~2I~{ THE <br /> RECEPTION OF RADIO BROADCiST SIGNALS, AND <br /> REPEALING OTiDtNANCE NO. 878 ADOPTED BY ~ <br /> GOIINCIL ON JUNE 17th, 1929. <br /> <br /> The i:eople of the City of Santa Ana~ Ro ordain as follows: <br /> <br /> Section 1. The word "person" shall mean and include both the singular <br />and plural and shall also mean and include person, individual, firm, corporation, <br />partnership, co'partnership, a~sociation, club, society or any other organization. <br /> <br /> Sec. 2. It shall be unlawful for any person to operate or cause to be <br />operated in the City of Santa Aha any device, appliance, equipment and/or apparatu~ <br />which creates or causes high frequency oscillations which interfere ~th the <br />reception of radio broadcast signals providing: <br /> <br /> First: That the radio receiver being interfered with complies with the <br />provisions of Section 4 of this or~]inance; <br /> <br /> Second: That the installation of the radio receiver being interfered with <br />complies with the provisions of Section 5 of this ordinance; <br /> <br /> Third: That the signal strength of any radio broadcast station being <br />interfered with conforms to the provisions of Section ~ of this Ordinance. <br /> <br /> Sec. ~. It is expressly underatood and provided, however, that this <br />ordinance shall not apply to radio broadcast stations, either commercial or <br />amateur, licensed by the Federal Government and/or which are engaged in interstate <br />communication and/or public utilities which are under the supervision of the <br />California State i<ailroad Co~nission. <br /> <br /> Sec. 4. Any and/or all radio receivers coming within the provisions of <br />this ordinance shall bo thoroughly and effectively shielded. No receiver shall be <br />considered "thoroughly and effectively" shielded which will deliver fifty milliwat <br />output at any frequency within its tuning range when placed in a field intensity <br />of ten thousand. (10,000) microvolts per meter without an antenna or ground and <br />with the volume control at the point of greatest sensitivity. <br /> <br /> Sec. 5. Any and/or all radio receivers coming within the provisions of <br />this ordinance shall be supplied with and operated from a suitable antenna and <br />groun~ system tho minimum requirements of which shall be as follows: The antenna <br />shall be not less than forty feet in length in a straight line, suspended not less <br />than twenty feet from the ground at any point, and shall be placed as far as <br />possible and pr~ctical from inductive relation with any other wires. The lead-in <br />from the antenna to the receiver shall consist of a No. 14 Brown and Sharpe gauge <br />rubber covered copper conductor, the rubber insulation being entirely surrounded <br />by either a closely woven copper mesh or lead sheath to form a protective armor. <br />This lead-in to extend in one continuous piece without breaks from the antenna <br />proper to the antenna binding post of the receiver. The ground shall consist of <br />either a water pipe or a ground rod connected to both the ground post of the <br />receiver and the metal protective ara,or. <br /> <br /> Sec. 6. Any and/or all radio broadcast stations which deliver a modulat. <br />field strength of more th~n 500'microvolts per meter to any point within a radiu~ <br />of fifty (50) feet from the radio receiver being interfered with shall be <br />considered as coming within the provisions of this ordinance. <br /> <br />d <br /> <br /> <br />
