ARTICLE VI <br />6.0 TRAINING AND EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM <br />6.1 Purpose. <br />A. To encourage the employees of the City of Santa Ana to <br />take college courses and special training courses which <br />will better enable them to perform their present duties <br />and prepare them for increased responsibilities. <br />B. To provide financial assistance to eligible employees <br />for education and training. <br />C. To establish eligibility requirements, conditions and <br />procedures whereby such assistance may be provided. <br />6.2 Eligibility. <br />A. Application for tuition reimbursement will be <br />considered only from full-time, regular City employees <br />who have completed probation. <br />B. Reimbursement is not authorized for courses for which <br />the employee is receiving financial assistance from <br />other sources such as G.I. Bill, scholarships, etc. <br />C. Applications will be approved only for courses directly <br />related to the employee's job or directly related to a <br />promotional position in the employee's occupational <br />specialty. <br />D. Courses not ostensibly related to the employee's job, <br />but which are required to qualify for a degree that is <br />directly related to his job, may be reimbursable only <br />after all required occupationally related courses have <br />been completed. (For example, a Fire Battalion Chief <br />is a candidate for an, A.A. Degree in Fire Science and <br />has completed all coursework directly related to his <br />fire suppression duties. A course in American History <br />is required for the degree. The history course may <br />qualify for tuition reimbursement because ,the degree <br />can be related to the employee's job.) <br />E. Prior to receiving tuition reimbursement, employees <br />must submit documentary proof of having received a <br />grade of not less than "C" for the course. If <br />objective ratings are not rendered for the specific <br />course, then a certificate of successful completion <br />must be submitted. <br />F. Approval will be limited to courses given by accredited <br />colleges and universities, community colleges, <br />20 <br />
