Box 1988 Santa Ana, CA 92702 Attention: Joseph Fletcher City Attorney Re: Attorney fees for defense of Santa Ana Cases Dear Mr. Fletcher; As we discussed last December, we have had to raise our hourly rate on the defense of Santa Ana cases to $125.00 hourly, a flat rate, from our current rate of $115.00, effective June 1, 1999. We had proposed that change effective January 1, 1999, but you had requested We try to hold off until June, as the new fiscal year beginning in July would give you the opportunity to include this in the 1999-2000 budget. We have honored your request and thank you for the support you have given this office. As the city has been only able to send us the larger exposure files, it has required the work of the more senior people in the firm. The costs of personnel have also risen for us and we feel this new rate, while still lower than our competition, will allow us to maintain the high quality of service to the city which we are proud to say has lead to a very successful defense of the City in hundreds of cases. As we have discussed on a number of occasions, we appreciate the 34 year relationship this office has had with the City of Santa Ana where we not only have maintained our office, but also had the pleasure of representing the city throughout that time. We also have expanded our expertise into the additional municipal law areas of condemnation, public employee labor related issues of wrongful termination, and appellate work with the addition of former Chief Assistant City Attorney Robert Wheeler. We hope in the near future that your office can use our firm in these areas, should the need arise.
