Broadband Strategic Planning and Implementation: Marion
County, OR
Contact
Danielle Gonzalez, Economic Development
Phone: 503-589-3235
Email: DGonzalez@co.marion.or.us
Challenge
Marion County, Oregon selected EN as its partner in the creation of a Broadband Strategic Plan
to explore strategies for connectivity to unserved and underserved locations throughout the
largely rural region.
EN's Solution
Our team worked with Marion County to identify opportunities for partnerships with utilities and
private industry to develop a plan that met both the needs and capabilities of each unique
community within the County. The Plan's recommendations included capitalizing on a planned
public works project to deploy additional broadband infrastructure to several of the towns in
which lack of broadband access was most dire, as well as partnering with new internet service
providers to deliver services that meet the needs of precision agriculture operations.
Our Client's Success
The County Board accepted the Plan in 2019 and Marion County quickly acted on the
recommendations, resulting in additional internet service options for several communities as
well as broadband grant funding awards to continue the effort. EN was asked to continue its
work with the County to assist the County with exploring funding opportunities including
emergency disaster assistance for resilient infrastructure following the devastating wildfires of
2020, as well as broadband-friendly policy development and implementation that will drive
continued investment in the region.
Page 13 ;
