CITY COUNCIL 32 SEPTEMBER 17, 2024 <br /> SEPTEMBER 23, 2024 <br />**END OF PUBLIC HEARINGS** <br />COUNCILMEMBER REQUESTED ITEMS <br />25.Discuss Consider Directing the City Manager, City Attorney, and City Clerk to <br />Rescind the “Guidelines for filming, photography and recording of City of <br />Santa Ana public meetings” Media Policy – Councilmembers Vazquez and <br />Lopez <br />MINUTES: Councilmember Vazquez gave a report regarding the media policy. <br />Councilmember Hernandez spoke in support of rescinding the policy. <br />Mayor Pro Tem Phan discussed pros and cons regarding the media policy and <br />provided recommendations for revisions to the policy. <br />Councilmember Penaloza spoke in support of Mayor Pro Tem Phan’s comments and <br />recommendations. <br />Mayor Amezcua spoke in support of Mayor Pro Tem Phan’s comments. <br />Councilmember Bacerra spoke in support of revising the policy. <br />Councilmember Lopez expressed support for options, provided that the revisions <br />aligned with the Brown Act and offered flexibility for the press. <br />Councilmember Vazquez spoke regarding the Brown Act and thanked colleagues for <br />the discussion. <br />City Attorney Sonia Carvalho clarified that the current policy is compliant with the law <br />and expressed willingness to collaborate on recommendations. <br />Mayor Pro Tem Phan requested timeline clarification. <br />Mayor Amezcua proposed 30 days for a revised policy. <br />Mayor Pro Tem Phan requested interim flexible judgement while policy revisions are <br />pending. <br />City Manager Alvaro Nuñez confirmed 30 days was sufficient time for a revised policy. <br />CITY MANAGER COMMENTS <br />MINUTES: None.
