Box 91478 <br /> Long Beach, CA 90809 <br /> Phone: (562)235-8835 <br /> E-mail: barkreadingdogs(a,aol.com <br /> Contact Name: Josie Gavieres, BARK Director <br /> EVENT: Santa Ana Public Library-Read to a Dog program <br /> LOCATIONS: All Library facilities including but not limited to facilities listed below. <br /> • Main Library, 26 Civic Center Plaza, Santa Ana CA 92701 <br /> • Newhope Library, 122 Newhope Street, Santa Ana CA 92703 <br /> TERM:November 1, 2024—December 31, 2025 <br /> COMPENSATION: $0.00 <br /> DESCRIPTION: <br /> Therapy dog handler and companion therapy dog shall provide reading assistance for the Youth <br /> Services section through a Read to a Dog Program at the Santa Ana Public Library. <br /> City staff and volunteers from Bark Reading Dogs will coordinate future dates and times when <br /> handlers and therapy dogs can provide their services to participate in an educational program. <br /> The program will include a volunteer and therapy dog trained to create an environment that is <br /> calming and non judgmental for youth who are struggling readers and help make reading fun for <br /> the child. This literacy program reduces anxiety associated with reading. The number of <br /> volunteers will be considered depending on the popularity and availability of handler/therapy <br /> dog pairs. <br /> The City will be responsible for setting up the space for the patrons attending, choosing a <br /> selection of books and advertising the program. Handler/therapy dog pair(s)will be responsible <br /> for providing all other equipment,materials, and supplies necessary to provide the service. <br /> City staff will be present at all times during the service. <br />
