In the face of escalated attacks on our communities, it is critical for
the City to keep reaffirming its commitment to immigrant rights.
Therefore, we urge you to issue a formal apology to the family of Edgar Vargas for the brutality
he suffered at the hands of a now -former Santa Ana Police Department officer and, as a result,
ICE agents. Although an apology cannot reverse the deep harm inflicted on the Vargas family, it
is important that the City fully and formally acknowledge this history of injustice as we chart a
path towards a more inclusive Santa Ana.
Sincerely,
Harbor Institute for Immigrant & Economic Justice
Orange County Justice Fund
VietRISE
Joined by:
Orange County Rapid Response Network (OCRRN)
Latino Health Access
Orange County Communities Organized for Responsible Development (OCCORD)
Orange County Congregation Community Organization (OCCCO)
