<br />On recommendation of the Manager and on motion of Councilman Jerome,
<br />seconded b~ Lateen and carried, Tentative Map of Tract No. 1953, sub-
<br />mitted by J. R. Sandstrom, consisting of twenty-six lots bounded on
<br />the east by Halladay Street, on the west by Oak Street and lying
<br />
<br />between Myrtle and Bishop Streets, was approved.

<br />On motion of Councilman Larsen, seconded by Jerome and carried, the
<br />request of Hugh M. Neighbour, Jr. for reimbursement in the sum of
<br />$198.90 which is the difference in the cost of the street improvements
<br />on a nine foot strip on Bristol Street was denied, due to the fact
<br />that the Council's policy in regard to cost constr~Aotion in new sub-
<br />divisions adopted September 21, 1953 ~is.not retroactive and the street
<br />improvements in Tract No. 1502 at Santa Clara Avenue and BriStol Street
<br />were completed,SePtember 25th, 1953.

<br />On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Lateen and carried, the
<br />request of Penn Van & Storage Company for two ove~-size driveways of
<br />fifty-foot each to serve the warehouse located at 1610 Santiago Way,
<br />was referred to the committee on curb usage for report at the next
<br />meeting.

<br />On motion of Councilman Lateen, seconded by Jerome and carried, the
<br />request of Richard A. Hill, 930 West Berkeley, for permission to keep
<br />
<br />over twenty-five fowls, was denied.

<br />Communication was read from ~'he Orange County Water District request-
<br />
<br />ing that a Director be appointed to represent the City of- Santa Aha.
<br />On motion of 0ouncilman Jerome, seconded by McBride and carried,
<br />Courtney R. Chandler was appointed as a Director on the Orange County
<br />
<br />Water District Board.

<br />Communication was read from the Public Utilities Co~mission reference '
<br />
<br />the application of Albert Lipps, dba Douglas Bus Line, to transport
<br />passengers from the cities of Santa Ana, Anaheim, Orange, Garden Grovei'
<br />Westminster, Cypress, Bolsa and Midway City to Douglas Aircraft Plant
<br />on Lakewood Boulevard in Los Angeles County. On motion of Councilman
<br />Dahl, seconded by Lateen and carried, the communication was x~eceived,
<br />filed and Clerk instructed to notify the Public Utilities Commission
<br />that the City of Santa Aha has no objection to the application.
<br />Communication was read from the Public Utilities Commission in regard '
<br />to investigation to establish a list of grade crossings of railroads
<br />and city, county, or city and county highways urgently in need of
<br />improved protection, and to determine the nature of needed-improved
<br />protection at such crossings; hearingsto be held October 28, 1953 in
<br />Los Angeles and on November 4, 1953 in San Francisco. On motion of
<br />Councilman Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, the communication
<br />
<br />was received and filed.
