RESOLUTION NO. 60-233 ASCERTAINING THE GENERAL
PREVAILING RATE OF PER DI~ WAGES IN THE LOCALITY
OF SANTA ANA, CALIFOrnIA, FOR THE CRAFTS AND
CLASSIFICATIONS NEEDED TO EXECUTE CITY CONTRACTS

WHEREAS, Division 2, Part 7 of the Labor Code~ the State of
California, requires that the City Council, in awarding any contract
for public work shall ascertain the general prevailing rate of per
diem wages in the locality for each craft, classification or type of
workman needed to execute the contract, and shall specify the same,
and the general prevailing rate for holiday and overtime work, and
the City Council has determined that said prevailing wage rates are
fixed by the contracts entered into between the Unions and the Employ-
ers' Associations, and with few exceptions such rates so fixed are the
prevailing rates in the County of Orange, with an insignificant number
of employers paying less; and

WHEREAS, such contracts so fixing wage rates to be paid are
renegotiated infrequently and remain level for long periods, but
that the City is continuously letting public work contracts; and

WHEREAS, the Council hereafter proposes and will reexamine the
prevailing wage rates in the locality in each case prior to awarding
any contract for public work, but unless a change has occurred will
not readopt such rates or republish the same, in the belief that in
this way the highest prevailing wage rate will in each case be estab-
lished and specified, and a great saving in the expenditure of public
funds will be had.

NOW, ~fHEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That after study of wage rates
established by collective bargaining agreements, and field checks and
inquiry with employers and Union organizations, the City Council of the
City of Santa Ana has ascertained the general prevailing rate of per
diem wages in the locality of Santa Ana, California, for each craft,
classification or type of wor]aman needed on Public Works contracts
to be let by the City to be as set forth in the schedules, wage scales,

-1-
