Use caution when opening attachments or links.
Dear Mayor Amezcua and Councilmembers,
My name is Greg I have made Santa Ana my home for over 10 years, along with my wife who was born
and raised here, and her parents who have been proud Santaneros for over 50 years. All of us have
directly experienced the effects of climate change, environmental injustice, and toxic pollution in our
communities--from the chronic lead poisoning of the soil to the fact that only 4% of the land in this city
is considered green space. Reliance on fossil fuels has led to an ecocidal effect on the health of
ourselves, our city, and our planet. Fortunately, there are solutions in clean energy and sustainable
practices, with state and government providing much-needed rebates and incentives for working class
people like me to afford electric vehicles and chargers, heat pumps, induction stoves, and other home
weatherization improvements.

That's why I'm demanding that you oppose the resolution under Agenda Item 18 at the City Council
Meeting on February 18. According to data from CalEnviroScreen 4.0, the City of Santa Ana faces a
disproportionate amount of Orange County’s pollution burden. Proposed Rules 1111 and 1121 would
make great strides towards addressing public health in the city. By electrifying gas appliances such as
furnaces and water heaters, the city can reduce residents’ exposure to toxic NOx emissions that result
in asthma, lung cancer, and cardiovascular diseases.
Additionally, there are a number of programs that make installation of electric appliances more
affordable for working families. The state’s HEEHRA program offers families between $4,000-$8,000
for installation costs, and South Coast AQMD’s Go Zero program provides $1,500 in rebates for water
heaters and heat pumps. Electric appliances are not a burden to Santa Ana residents - they are a public
health benefit that is more within reach than ever.
Please oppose the resolution under Item 18.
Thank you,
Greg

1
