RESOLUTION 67-88 IN SUPPORT OF THE B02%R~ SUPER~ <br />VISORS OF ORANGE COUNTY SEEKING THE ESTABLISHMENT <br />OF A NAVAL FACILITY AT LOS ALAMITOS <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, our nation is confronted with serious Soviet <br />challenge to its naval superiority as a result of the massive <br />efforts being made by Russia to develop the world's largest and <br />most advanced undersea fleet; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, an undersea warfare center has been proposed by the <br />Department of the Navy as a means of countering this threat by <br />increasing the strength and effectiveness of our nation's undersea <br />forces through the integration of the Navy's analytical, scientific, <br />and engineering capabilities in a single center with responsibility <br />in major warfare areas, systems development, and technological <br />functions; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Defense Department has recommended the location <br />of this facility at Los Alamitos, in Orange County, California, <br />because of the large amount of available government land, the <br />availability of supporting industry, the proximity to closely related <br />Navy installations, and the early date by which the facility could <br />be completed; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Orange County, California, offers the unique <br />combination of a favorable climate, a progressive business community, <br />a large reservoir of highly trained personnel, a wide variety of <br />housing, excellent recreation facilities, fine public schools, and a <br />number of outstanding colleges and universities; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of the <br />City of Santa Ana, California, does hereby endorse the location of <br />the Navy's Undersea Warfare Center at Los Alamitos, California, and <br />does hereby express its support of the Board of Supervisors of Orange <br />County in its cooperation with the Defense Department to secure <br />Congressional approval for and early completion of this most important <br />defense installation. <br /> <br /> PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Santa <br />Ana at its regular meeting held on the 19th day of June, 1967. <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />CLER/( OF T~E COUNClI~ <br /> <br />VICE MAYOR <br /> <br />STATE OF CALIFORNIA) <br />COUNTY OF ORANGE ) <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA ) <br /> <br />SS <br /> <br /> I, DORIS M.
