On motion of Councilman <br /> Jerome, seconded by Larsen and carried, the recommendation of the <br /> Planning Commission was approved and variance granted, subject to the <br /> <br />improvements as imposed by the Assistant Director of Public Works. . <br /> On motion of Councilman Larsen, seconded by McBride and carried, the <br /> recommendation of the Planning Commission was approved and variance <br /> granted Patrick P. Prizio to permit the use of property at 817 North <br /> Patton Street for construction of a twelve-unit two-story apartment <br /> house with garages and ample turning room in the alley. <br /> <br /> Communication was read from the Planning Commission recommending denial <br /> of variance application of Robert M. Holt to permit the use of prop- <br /> erty at 1832 South Flower Street for the operation of an upholstering <br /> and drapery shop, and on motion of Councilman McBride, seconded by <br /> <br /> Dahl and carried, the recommendation of the Planning Commission was <br /> <br /> approved and variance denied. <br /> . <br /> Communications were read fro~ the Planning Commission recommending <br /> that a variance be granted The Presbytery of Los Angeles to permit the <br /> use of property situated at 940 Wilshire Avenue, for the construction <br /> of a church, and from the Assistant Director of Public Works stating <br /> that the paving out to existing pavement on Wilshire Street, construct- <br /> ion of sidewalk and combination curb and gutter across the property <br /> are needed in front of or along side the property to bring it up to <br /> the present city standards. .On motion of Councilman Dahl, seconded <br /> by Larsen and carried, the recommendation of the Planning Commission <br /> <br /> was approved and variance granted subject to the dedication and improve- <br /> ment of the north 30 feet of the Droperty on Wilshire Street and to the <br /> improvements as imposed by the Department ~of Public Works. <br /> <br /> On motion of Councilman Dahl, seconded by Larsen and carried, the <br /> reque~ of the Bible Center Church to erect a directional sign 18"x24" <br /> on the southwest corner of the intersection of North Main and Fifteenth <br /> Streets, in the area between ~he curb and sidewalk, was granted sub- <br /> Ject to the condition that the sign be erected on the Fifteenth Street <br /> right-of-way and under the direction of ~he Dept. of Public Works. <br /> <br /> On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by McBride and carried, the <br /> request of the M and S Maintenance and Construction Company for a <br /> permit to construQ~ two driveways for service station at 2026 South <br /> Flower Street, one 35' wide and the other 30~ wide with a 20~ separator, <br /> for the Santa Ana Oil Company, was referred to the curb usage committee <br /> <br /> for recommendation at the next meeting. <br /> ,, <br /> On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by McBride and carried, the <br /> request of Lloyd Shearer for a loading zone at ~ll West Third Street, <br /> was referred to the curb usage committee for recommendation at the <br /> <br /> next meeting. <br /> , <br /> On motion of Councilman Dahl, seconded by Larsen and carried, the <br /> effective February ],1954 <br /> resignation of E.
