RESOLUTION 69-132 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA RELATING TO CORPS OF ENGINEERS' <br />WORK ON THE SANTA ANA RIVER AND SANTIAGO CREEK, <br />AND URGING EXPEDIENCY THEREFOR <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Corps of Engineers proposes to make certain <br />works of improvement upon the Santa Ana River below Prado Dam; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Santiago Creek is a primary tributary of the Santa <br />Ana River which flows through the City of Santa Ana and neighbor- <br />ing communities, and in early 1969 caused great damage to both <br />public and private property; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the heavy rain storms of late 1968 and early 1969 <br />pointed out the necessity for the herein described works of <br />improvement; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is essential for the protection of the City <br />of Santa Ana in the event there should be a recurrence of storms <br />of the intensity recently experienced which would result in costly <br />and tragic inundation and damage by erosion of portions of the <br />City of Santa Ana; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the improvement of these drainage facilities is <br />in the best interest of the health, safety and welfare of the <br />citizens of the City of Santa Ana. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Corps of Engineers <br />be urged to give high priority in planning, allocation of funds <br />and letting of contracts and commencement of the work of improve- <br />ment of the lower Santa Ana River and on Santiago Creek. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That such other works of improve- <br />ment as are necessary for the protection of life and property <br />within the Santa Ana River Basin be undertaken on the entire <br />drainage system under the jurisdiction of the Corps of Engineers <br />from Prado Dam to the Pacific Ocean. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That copies of this Resolution be <br />forwarded to all of the twenty-four cities within Orange County <br />which are urged to adopt similar resolutions. <br /> <br /> BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED: That copies of this Resolution be <br />forwarded to the appropriate offices of the Corps of Engineers <br />with a transmittal letter urging their immediate action. <br /> <br /> PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City o~ Santa <br />Ana at its regular meeting held on the 2nd day of September, 1969, <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />CLERK OF THE COUNCIL <br /> <br />MAYOR <br /> <br />STATE OF CALIFORNIA ) <br />COUNTY OF ORANGE ) SS <br />CITY OF SANTA AMA ) <br /> <br /> I, FLORENCE I.
