RESOLUTION 69-137 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA DESIGNATING SEPTEMBER 30, 1969 <br />AS BIBLE TRANSLATION DAY <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, WYCLIFFE BIBLE TRANSLATORS, <br />far-reaching linguistic research foundation, <br />the City of Santa Ana; and <br /> <br />INC., the world's most <br />has its home base in <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this program is serving our own as well as twenty <br />other nations in a noble and unselfish way, bringing literacy and <br />the light of the written word to hundreds of tribes living in <br />out-of-the-way areas of the world in cultural isolation without <br />books or even an alphabet and much less the Bible; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this program of scientific research, literacy and <br />brotherly service includes the translation of portions of the most <br />universally recognized prize of our Western civilization, the Bible, <br />permitting us thus to use it as the non-sectarian symbol of a <br />program of science and service for once well nigh forgotten tribes; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the translation of the Bible into these tribal <br />languages requires that an alphabet and a thorough grammatical <br />analysis of the language be produced, and results in an expansion <br />of literacy and an improvement of the cultural base of the <br />language groups affected; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this effort has cultural, economic, social, and <br />political significance separate from its spiritual value; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the more than 2000 linguistics and technical helpers <br />presently engaged in this labor of science and love need and <br />deserve our encouragement; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the <br />City of Santa Ana, on its own account, and for the citizens of the <br />City of Santa Ana designates the 30th day of September, 1969, as <br />Bible Translation Day and does hereby commend Wycliffe Bible <br />Translators, Inc. for its unstinting service to humanity. <br /> <br /> PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Santa <br />Ana at its regular meeting held on the 15th day of September, 1969. <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />MAYOR <br /> <br />STATE OF CALIFORNIA ) <br />COUNTY OF ORANGE ) SS <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA ) <br /> <br /> I, FLORENCE I.
