RESOLUTION 69-155 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SANTA ANA URGING THE PRESIDENT AND THE CONGRESS <br />OF THE UNITED STATES AND THE JUDICIARY TO TAKE <br />STEPS TO ASSURE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE FREEDOM OF <br />RELIGION AND THE BASIC RIGHT TO EXPRESS A BELIEF <br />IN GOD <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, during Christmastime, 1968, astronauts orbiting <br />the moon chose to read Bible passages to express their belief in <br />a Supreme Being; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the signers of the Declaration of Independence <br />expressly relied upon Divine Providence in forming these United <br />States and recognized that all men are endowed by their Creator <br />with certain rights; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Article Three of the Constitution prohibits <br />Congress from making any law prohibiting the free exercise of <br />religion; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the principle of the separation of church and <br />state was never intended to deny the existence of God, or to <br />curtail the expression thereof; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, certain persons representing a small minority <br />of the people are attempting, through judicial processes, to <br />impose unreasonable restrictions upon the majority by limiting <br />their right to express their belief in God, indeed even to the <br />point of prohibiting mentioning the existence of a Supreme Being; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of <br />the city of Santa Ana, california, does hereby urge the President, <br />the Congress, and the Judiciary of the United States to take <br />appropriate action to assure the citizens of the United States <br />freedom to believe in God and freedom to exercise that belief. <br /> <br />PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Santa <br /> <br />Aha at its regular meeting held on the <br />ATTE ST: <br /> <br />20th day of October, 1969. <br /> <br /> blAYOR <br /> <br />STATE OF CALIFORNIA) <br />COUNTY OF ORANGE ) <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA ) <br /> <br />SS <br /> <br /> I, FLORENCE I.
