RESOLUTION 70-59 SUPPORTING THE PROVISION OF <br />ARTICLE XXVI OF THE CALIFORNIA CONSTITUTION <br />WHICH PROTECTS GASOLINE TAX FUNDS AGAINST <br />DIVERSION TO OTHER THAN HIGHWAY PURPOSES <br /> <br /> WHEP~EAS, the gasoline tax is levied upon highway users to <br />provide funds for highway facilities; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the gasoline tax is a special tax over and above <br />general taxes levied upon motorists, and it would be unfair and- <br />inequitable to use gasoline taxes for other forms of transpor- <br />tation or general government purposes; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, California's excellent system of freeways and <br />highways is of vital importance to business, industry, and the <br />entire economy and future development of California; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the California Freeway and Expressway System <br />adopted by the Legislature in 1959 is less than fifty percent <br />complete; <br /> <br />(50%) <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the city Council of <br />the City of Santa Ana does hereby support the provision of <br />Article XXVI of the California Constitution which protects <br />gasoline tax funds against diversion to other than highway pur- <br />poses, and urges that no substantive amendments be made which <br />would change such Constitutional provision. <br /> <br /> PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of <br />Ana at its regular meeting held on <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />CLERK OF THE COUNCIL <br /> <br /> the City of Santa <br />the 6th day of U~ll;, 1970. <br /> <br />MAYOR <br /> <br />STATE OF CALIFORNIA) <br />COUNTY OF ORANGE ) <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA ) <br /> <br />SS <br /> <br /> I, FLORENCE I.
