RESOLUTION 71-12 ENDORSING AND <br />SUPPORTING TI~E FEBRUARY 23, 1971, <br />TAX OVERRIDE ELECTION <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Santa Ana Board of Education, in its <br />wisdom and judgment, has decreed that additional funds are <br />required to operate effectively the Santa Ana Unified School <br />District in its educatio~r~l program; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the impact of the effectiveness of the schools <br />has a direct bearing on the economic growth and prosperity of <br />the City, County, State and Nation; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the election scheduled by the School Board is <br />for February 23, 1971, to increase the general purpose tax <br />rate from $2.99 to $3.53 per $100 of assessed valuation; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the existing $.79 tax override which was approved <br />by the voters in 1969 expires as of June 30, 1971; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the continuance of the $.79 rate and the addi- <br />tional $.54 is essential for the school district to maintain its <br />balance in keeping with the inflationary spiral and to meet the <br />need to hire additional teachers to reduce overcrowded conditions <br />at the secondary level; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of <br />the City of Santa Ana does hereby endorse and support the <br />February 23, 1971, tax override election. <br /> <br /> PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of <br />Santa Ana at its regular meeting held on the 1st day of February <br />1971. <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />CLERK OF THE COUNCIL <br /> <br />MAYOR <br /> <br />STATE OF CALIFORNIA) <br />COUNTY OF ORANGE ) <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA ) <br /> <br />SS <br /> <br /> I, FLORENCE I.
