A SPECIAL RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA COMMENDING <br />MASTER KEVIN AMES FOR AN ACT OF HEROISM <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of this City Council <br />that on February 23, 1971, Master Kevin Ames, age 14, of <br />1143 South Parton Street, Santa Ana, California, upon discovering <br />smoke coming from a dwelling at 1138 South Garnsey Street, <br />Santa Ana, attempted to arouse the occupants. Unable to do so, <br />he sought the aid of a neigt~bor, who called the Fire Department. <br /> <br /> Kevin then ran to the burning house and gained entry. <br />Through the smoked-filled house he found his way to the front <br />door and opened it to the neighbor. Together they found the <br />occupant, Mr. Jerry Hessen, lying on the floor next to a <br />burning sofa and quickly removed the sofa from the room. With <br />the aid of the Fire Department, the life of the occupant was <br />saved and the dwelling was spared serious fire loss. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of <br />the City of Santa Ana, individually, collectively, and in a <br />representative capacity for the citizens of the City of Santa Ana, <br />commend MASTER KEVIN AMES for his actions on February 23, 1971, <br />to wit: gaining entrance to the burning building and aiding in <br />the rescue of the occupant, thereby saving his life; <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That acknowledgment and appreci- <br />ation be proclaimed for this unselfish act which resulted in the <br />saving of a life notwithstanding the apparent danger to his own. <br /> <br /> PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of <br />Santa Ana at its regular meeting held on the 15th day of March, <br /> <br />1971. <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />CLEP~)F THE COUNCIL <br /> <br />MAYOR <br /> <br />STATE OF CALIFORNIA) <br />COUNTY OF ORANGE ) <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA ) <br /> <br />SS <br /> <br /> I, FLORENCE I.
