Chandler <br /> Noes, Councilmen None <br /> Absent, Councilmen None <br /> <br /> carried, the <br /> <br />Mayor was authorized to execute Agreement dated December 20th, 1955, <br />with the Office of Civil Defense, State of California, furnishing as <br /> <br />a ~oan to the City, four Ion Chamber Instruments. <br />,, <br />Communications were presented from Lorin Griset etal, tenants in the <br />area where it is proposed to establish Vehicle Parking District No. 2, <br />protesting the condemnation of buildings on the south side of West <br />Fifth Street between Sycamore and B~oadway for a parkin~ lot, which <br />would cause considerable expense and loss of business to the various <br />tenants in the area attempting to secure new business locations. On <br />motion of Councilman Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, the <br />Attorney was instructed to prepare the Resolution and Ordinance under <br />the Acts to carry this matter to its hearing with the reSaining of <br /> <br />an outside Engineer. <br /> Ayes, <br /> <br /> Noes, <br /> Absent, <br /> <br />Roll Call Councilmen William Jerome, Milford W. Lateen <br /> Councilmen None <br /> <br />On recommendation of the Acting Director of Public Works and on motion <br />of Councilman Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, the request of <br />Peerless Concrete Pipe Corporation for an extension of time from <br />December 20th to January 10th, 1955, to complete construction of storm <br />drain between First Street and Fifth Street, an extension of West <br /> <br />Ditch, was granted. <br />,, <br />On motion~ of Councilman Dahl, seconded by Lateen and carried, the <br />Purchasing Agent was authorized to advertise for 15,000~ 6", 10,000~ <br /> <br />12" ~ and 5;000~ 8e Cast Iron Water Pipe; bids to be opened January, <br /> <br />3rd, 1955. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, the <br />Official Certificate from the Department of Commerce, reporting the <br />population as 59,010, as returned in the Special Census taken October <br />10th, 1954, was received and filed. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Da/al, seconded by Larsen and carried, the <br />claim of the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company, in the amount <br />of $91.61, for repairs to an eight multiple tile duct which was <br />damaged by a clamshell digger operated by a City employee, was received, <br /> <br />filed and referred to the Insurance Carrier and Attorney. <br /> . <br />'On motion of Councilman Dahl, seconded by Larsen and carried, the <br /> <br />Minutes of the Personnel Board dated November 24th, 1955, and the <br />notifications of the Stat~ Board of Equalization of alcoholic beverage <br />applications of Ruth W. Guest, 2657 North Main Street and Edward V. <br />Zirinsky, ~15 North Sycamore 8treet, were received and filed. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, the <br />applications of Louis H.
