RESOLUTION 71-5Z EXPRESSING CONCERN FOR <br />AMERICAN PRISONERS OF WAR AND URGING <br />NEGOTIATIONS FOR THEIR PROMPT RELEASE <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Vietnam War has, in some measure, <br />touched all of our lives; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Vietnam War has taken a particularly heavy <br />toll among the families whose sons, husbands and fathers are <br />prisoners of war, or listed as missing in action; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, government can best respond to those mandates <br />of leadership by uniting in purpose those whom it represents; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council <br />of the City of Santa Aha urges its citizens and civilized persons <br />everywhere to unite in a concentrated community of effort to inundate <br />the government of Hanoi with letters and telegrams requesting <br />immediate establishment of sincere negotiations with our government <br />for the release of American prisoners of war and information concern- <br />ing Americans missing in action. <br /> <br /> ]BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That June 14th, Flag Day, be <br />personally commemorated by each citizen andthathe send a letter <br />or telegram to his Congressman and Senator and to Hanoi carrying <br />the message of this Resolution demonstrating that the conscience of <br />all civilized men everywhere cry out against Hanoi's unconscionable <br />stand regarding the unknown status of those reported as missing in <br />action and those who are prisoners, demanding their early release. <br /> <br /> PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of <br />Santa Ana at its regular meeting held on the 7th day of June, 1971. <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />Ass~RK OF THE COUNCIL <br /> <br />MAYOR <br /> <br />STATE OF CALIFORNIA ) <br />COUNTY OF ORANGE ) <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA ) <br /> <br />SS <br /> <br /> I, MARJORIE L.
