RESOLUTION 71-75 ENDORSING THE INCLUSION <br />OF A UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT WITHIN <br />THE FEDERAL BUILDING TO BE BUILT IN THE <br />CIVIC CENTER <br /> <br /> W~EHEAS the Central District of California ranks <br />twenty-second in geographical size among the present <br />ninety-three United States District Courts; and <br /> <br /> WPIEREAS it is the only District among the first <br />seventy-seven in geographical size to have only a <br />single courtroom location; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS the Central District of California ranks <br />sixth of the ninety-three United States Court Districts <br />in the number of civil case filings; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS the population encompassed within the <br />Central District of California is the largest among the <br />ninety-three United States Court Districts; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is probably that criminal filings are <br />likely to bear, at least in a general way, a relationship <br />to population and the number of civil filings; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS the difficulty of getting to the present <br />Courthouse in Los Angeles from the outlying Counties, such <br />as Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino, due in part to <br />heavy freeway congestion and due in part to the complete <br />lack of adequate parking facilities near the present <br />Courthouse makes an additional courtroom location <br />desirable; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the above factors indicate the requirement <br />and desirability of an additional courtroom facility in <br />the Central District of California; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the location of such an additional facility <br />at Santa Ana in Orange County would be much more accessible, <br />convenient and desirable, not only for Orange County <br />litigants, attorneys, witnesses and jurors, but also to <br />most of such persons residing in Riverside and San Bernardino <br />Counties; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council <br />of the City of Santa Ana urges the creation of a United States <br />District Courtroom facility or Courtroom facilities in the <br />soon-to-be constructed Federal Building in Santa Aha, <br />California. <br /> <br /> PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of <br />Santa Aha at its regular meeting held on the 2nd day of <br />August, 1971. <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />CLERK OF THE COUNCIL <br /> <br />MAYOR <br /> <br />- 1 - <br /> <br /> <br />
