CITY OF SAN'F^ ANA <br /> <br />SANITATION 1NSPI~,CTOR I <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />This is investigative work in enforcing regulations relating to solid waste <br />collection, rubbish and weed nuisances. <br /> <br />EXAM~,ES OF DUTIES <br /> <br />Makes field inspections throughout the City on work performed by the City solid <br />waste collection contractor to determine that service given is in accord with <br />City regulations and contract requirements. Investigates complaints made by <br />citizens regarding solid waste collection and rubbish or weed nuisances. Discusses <br />with residents and property owners the type of service to which they are entitled <br />and explains the regulations regarding their responsibility. Cooperates closely <br />in the field with the City solid waste collection contractor, the Fire Department <br />and the County Health Department to prevent and eliminate illegal, unsightly, <br />hazardous or unhealthy solid waste collection, weeds, littering or storage problems. <br />May assist in the survey, plotting, posting, inspection or cost spread involved <br />in the annual weed abatement program. Posts placards as necessary for street <br />abandonments, assessment districts and other municipal.activities. May issue <br />citations for weed nuisances and illegal rubbish, litter and other trash accumulation. <br /> <br />DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS <br /> <br />Work of this class involves the responsibility for checking the work performance by <br />municipal solid waste collection contractor and the investigation of complaints <br />regarding solid waste collection, weed nuisances and illegal rubbish, litter <br />and other trash accumulation. Work assignments and technical guidance are normally <br />received from the Sanitation Inspector II. <br /> <br />MINIMUM BASIC REQUIRE}~NTS <br /> <br />Three years of experience in work involving public contact, preferably including <br />experience in the field of solid waste collection and disposal, and completion of <br />high school; or an equivalent combination of experience and education. Must possess <br />a valid California drivers' license. <br /> <br />DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br /> <br />Considerable knowledge of work methods involved in solid waste collection and <br />disposal. Working knowledge of the solid waste collection ordinances. Working <br />knowledge of the requirements of the solid waste collection contracts.
