CITY OF SANTA ANA <br /> <br />COORDINATOR - NEIG}IBORIIOOD CENTER <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />Under direction of the Assistant to the City ~nager - Comunity Relations, performs <br />community service work involving the operation of a multi-purpose neighborhood center <br />directed toward providing and improving the effectiveness of local services including <br />necessary social, education, health and welfare-type functions. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES <br /> <br />Works wiO~ the residents of the neighborhood served to study and develop an understanding <br />of their needs and initiate programs d~signed to meet these requirements; supervises <br />Neighborhood Center staff and volunteers and is responsible for the general administra- <br />tion of the facility including security, maintenance and scheduling the use of the <br />facility; promotes, sense of.identity, pride and responsibility in the area served and <br />encourages broad citizen participation; provides liaison and coordinates extensively <br />with local and other governmental agencies, private service agencies and volunteer <br />groups to provide necessary social, health and welfare services to residents of the <br />neighborhood; maintains and communicates current information concerning various <br />community resources; counsels with persons in thm neighborhood, investigates their <br />problems and renders assistance in resolving their difficulties by referral to and <br />consultation with the appropriate official or agency; prepares minutes, agendas, <br />and staff reports for the Neighborhood Center Advisory Board whose purpose it is to <br />help identify and articulate area needs and resources; performs related duties as assigned. <br /> <br />DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS <br /> <br />Persons assigned to this class are responsible for advising on courses of action and for <br />developing, implementing, and coordinating programs which assist the neighborhood <br />residents in improving their economic, education, social and general living conditions. <br />Wor~. requires the application of initiative and independent judgment within the frame- <br />work of established policies and an ability to establish close rapport and constructive <br />relationships with the residents served. <br /> <br />MINIMlrM BASIC REQUIREMENTS <br /> <br />Two years' experience in a responsible community service or social welfare capacity <br />concerned with the improvement of intergroup relations supplemented by the completion <br />of at least 60 college level units including upper division course work in the fields <br />of psychology, sociology and education. <br /> <br />DESIRABLE K~_OWLEDGE~ SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br /> <br />and devise ahd implement solutions; abilJ <br />reports; knowledge of supervisory skills <br /> <br />Knowledge of social services available in the metropolitan area; ability to establish <br />and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, private groups, public <br />officials and the residents being served.; ability to communicate effectively with minority <br />groups and the disadvantaged and to help ]:hem in the use of available resources; knowledge <br />of office and record management; ability to analyz, e,g/.t,i~e~, opznzon ~,~ c~.~n~-y nc ~ <br /> ty to pr~ I~r~~~d accurale <br /> <br /> <br />
