will OF SANTA ANA <br /> <br />ASSISTANT COORDINATOR - NEIGllBORIIOOD CENTER <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />Under supervision of the Coordinator - Neighborhood Center, assists in the general <br />operation of the facility including the planning, scheduling and coordination of use <br />by social agencies providing services and programs for the residents of the area. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES <br /> <br />Meets with individuals 'and groups in the neighborhood relative to a wide variety of <br />complaints, problems, concerns and needs and assists in the development of courses of <br />action directed toward attaining solutions; assists in planning and scheduling activities <br />of neighborhood center volunteers; establishes and maintains working relationships with <br />a variety of public and private agencies in order to develop and expand social service <br />programs; recommends neighborhood center policies and procedures; encourages use of the <br />center by all segments of the community; provides and gathers information regarding a <br />variety of community services and resources through means of interview and counseling, <br />telephone contact and group gatherings; assists in fostering greater citizen partici- <br />pation with city administration; performs related duties as assigned. <br /> <br />DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS <br /> <br />The work of this class involves assisting with the implementation of programs which help <br />meet econfimic, health, educational and social needs and problems in the community. The <br />ability to work with people of various economic ami age levels and cultural backgrounds <br />is of prime importance. <br /> <br />MINIMUM BASIC REQUIREMENTS <br /> <br />Six months' experience in community organization or social welfare work affording a' <br />sufficient expogure and understanding of the processes of intergroup relations supple- <br />mented by the completion of the educational equivalent of 45 college level units includ- <br />ing course work in the fields of psychology and the social sciences. <br /> <br />DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br /> <br />Knowledge Of community programs and organizations; ability to understand human relation- <br />ships and problems of people of diverse backgrounds and age levels; skill in interviewing <br />techniques and in establishing rapport to determine the person's needs and to assure that <br />policies, and programs of the center are responsive to the residents of the area served; <br />ability to establish close contact between city government and citizens; ability to <br />prepare and present written and verbal reports; ability to follow instructions and <br />work without direct supervision. <br /> <br /> <br />
