CITY OF SANTA ANA <br /> <br />TRAFFIC EQUII~NT OPERATOR <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />Under general supervision, to operate, maintain and make minor repairs to high pressure- <br />high temperature paint striping apparatus for the painting of traffic lines on city stree! <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES <br /> <br /> Prepares the striping"~p~ratus by turning on heaters adjusting line pressures, and <br /> replacing cleaning solvents with paint in lines. Operate paint spray gun applying lane <br /> division and center line markings on roadways; aligns spray gun carriages with proper <br /> traffic striping markers; operates master control switches to modify type of spray patterr <br /> desired prior to and during the spraying process. Maintains control console to determine <br /> adequacy of numerous initial pressures and temperatures. Adjusts valves, levers and <br />b electrical switches which regulate pressure to spray guns, bead guns, inductor plates, <br /> solvent circulation systems, heat exchange and paint circulation systems, and control <br /> temperatures of heat exchange oil and paint product. .Cleans all paint systems~ including <br /> bead and paint guns and lubricators. Conducts operating maintenance checks and performs <br /> repairs necessary to keep paint spraying equipment in operable condition. Acts as a <br /> leadman of a crew assigned to the street painting section. <br /> <br />DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS <br /> <br />An employee in this class performs skilled work in operating complex integrated paint <br />striping equipment requiring mechanical understanding of the apparatus as well as <br />considerable manipulative skill in the driving and painting operation. Performs <br />leadman responsibilities in training and directing workmen in street painting activities. <br /> <br />MINIMUM BASIC REQUIREMENTS <br /> <br />Completion of the tenth grade and two years experience in the operation of high pressure- <br />high temperature traffic paint spraying equipment or similiar heavy duty equipment. <br /> <br />p~SIRABLE KNOWLED.GE, SKILLS AND A~ILITIES <br /> <br />Knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in painting traffic lane markers and <br />centerlines; procedures used in preparing painting and heat exchange equipment for 6perat- <br />ion and in cleaning after use.
