~ESOLUTION 73-8 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA, PROPOSING AN <br />AMENDMENT TO ARTICLE IV, DIVISION I, SECTION <br />401 OF THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA <br />TO REDUCE THE TIME A PERSON MUST BE A RESIDENT <br />AND REGISTERED ELECTOR OF THE CITY, AND TO REDUCE <br />THE TIME A PERSON MUST BE A RESIDENT OF A WARD <br />TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR NOMINATION FROM A WARD, WHICH <br />AMENDMENTS ARE TO BE PROPOSED TO THE ELECTORS <br />OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AT ITS GENERAL MUNI- <br />CIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD APRIL 3, 1973. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Ana <br />desires to propose to the qualified electors of the City of <br />Santa Aha an amendment to Article IV, Division I, Section 401 <br />of the Charter of the City of Santa Ana, to reduce the term a <br />person must be a resident and registered elector of the City <br />immediately preceding the date of his election or appointment <br />to be eligible to hold office of councilman from two (2) years <br />to one (1) year, and to reduce the time a person must be a <br />resident of the ward from which he is elected at the time he <br />is elected to be eligible for nomination from the ward one <br />(1) year to six (6) months; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Ordinance NS-1166 calls for a general muni- <br />cipal election to be held on April 3, 1973; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF ~HE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DETERMINE AND <br />ORDER, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That the following proposal be placed <br />on the ballot of the April 3, 1973, general municipal election, <br />to be designated as Proposition A, and to appear on the ballot <br />as folbws: <br /> <br />PROPOSITION A <br /> <br />Shall Article IV, Division I, Section 401 of : : <br />the Charter of the City of Santa Ana be amended : : <br />reducing from two (2) years, to one (1) year, : : <br />the time a person must be a resident and regis- : YES: <br />tered elector of the City immediately preceding : : <br />the date of his election or appointment to be : : <br />eligible to hold the office of councilman; and : : <br />reducing from one (1) year to six (6) months, : : <br />the time a person must be a resident of the : NO : <br />ward from which he is elected at the time he is : : <br />elected to be eligible for nomination from the : : <br />ward within which such person resides. : : <br /> <br /> <br />
