In <br /> addition, Bike Lanes shall be indicated on the ground by <br /> a white line and reflectors and, at appropriate intervals, <br /> the words "Bikes Only." <br /> <br /> Route Placement <br /> <br /> A Bike Route shall not be located along a major arterial <br /> street if one or more of the following conditions exist: <br /> <br /> · excessively heavy traffic volume in combination <br /> <br /> with narrow road width; <br /> <br /> · suitable parallel routes exist on adjacent streets; <br /> <br /> · such routes, in conjunction with already existing <br /> parallel routes, would result in too many bicycle <br /> route crossings being created on a given street <br /> within a relatively short distance. <br /> Where feasible, as determined by the Public Works Depart- <br /> ment, the Bike Routes shall make use of sidewalks (instead <br /> of removing parking lanes, or narrowing and/or elimina- <br /> ting driving lanes) in lieu of on-street lanes, especially <br /> where heavy traffic volumes exist. <br /> <br />~torm Drain Gratings <br /> <br /> Storm drain gratings along Bike Routes shall be modified, <br /> if necessary, to permit bicycle wheels to <br /> roll safely across. ·. <br /> <br /> <br />
