RESOLUTION NO. 73-155 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SANTA ANA URGING SANTA ANA CITIZENS TO <br />SUPPORT THE WORK OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION <br />BICENTENNIAL COMMISSION <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, 1976 will be a year to remember in our <br />nation's history as a time of celebration when Americans recall <br />two hundred years of independence and nationhood; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Bicentennial year will <br />ment, a time to remember the past, to enjoy <br />build for the future; and <br /> <br />be a time of achieve- <br />the present, and to <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the California and National American Revolution <br />Bicentennial Commissions have designated three themes for the <br />Bicentennial Commemoration: Heritage '76, to recall the past, <br />Festival U.S.A., the contemporary cultures around us, and Horizon~ <br />'76, to challenge ideas which improve and inspire the peoples <br />of the United States of America, the State of California, the <br />County of Orange, and the City of Santa Ana for generations to <br />come; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is an effort to share with other Americans <br />and the world the traditions, cultures, hospitality and character <br />cf the United States and all its people, and to honor the con- <br />tributions of other nations and their people to the development <br />of Santa Ana and th~ nation; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the American Revolution Bicentennial Commemora- <br />tion will involve civic associations, service clubs, Chamber of <br />Commerce, youth groups, social organizations, parochial organi- <br />zations, ethnic units, educational instrumentalities and individuals <br />not associated with any organizations; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, thE: American Association of Museums has recommended <br />that museums be made the focal point of American Revolution Bicen- <br />tennial Commemoration and further recommended that communities form <br />committees to determine the most important unmet needs of their <br />museums, the solutions which would be designated as the "Two-Hundred <br />Birthday Present" to the people of the community and the United <br />States, <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of <br />the City of Santa Ana, by and for the citizens of Santa Ana, urge <br />ell citizens - young and old - to contribute information, time and <br />assistance toward the success of the Bicentennial Commemoration <br />and further urge that all citizens familiarize themselves and <br />their associations, both social and business, with the Bicentennial. <br /> <br /> PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council <br />Santa Ana at its regL~lar meeting held on the <br /> Decembe~ , 1973. <br /> <br />of the City of <br />17 day of <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br /> <br />
