RESOLUTION NO. 74-38 <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA <br />COMMENDING ASTRONAUT GERALD P. CARR <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />GERALD P. CARR attended schools in Santa Ana and <br />was a citizen of this City for many years prior <br />to his entry into the United States Marine Corps; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />GERALD P. CARR has served honorably and faithfully <br />in the Armed Services of the United States of <br />America, bringing credit to himself, his family, <br />and his community; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS , <br /> <br />GERALD P. CARR voluntarily entered into the <br />vigorous training program of the American Manned <br />Space effort and was rewarded for his diligent <br />perseverance and exceptional accomplishments by <br />his selection as an Astronaut for the Skylab <br />Project; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />GERALD P. CARR was, in recognition of his skill, <br />knowledge, and leadership qualities, selected as <br />Commander for the Skylab III Space Mission; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />GERALD P. CARR successfully completed his assigned <br />mission, exhibiting outstanding courage and <br />ability, and achieving with his fellow astronauts <br />on Skylab III the proud distinction of having <br />spent the period from November 16, 1973 to February <br />3, 1974, in space, gathering important and valuable <br />information for the advancement of science and the <br />betterment of all mankind; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of <br /> the City of Santa Aha hereby commends ASTRONAUT <br /> GERALD P. CARR as an outstanding American whose <br /> courageous endeavors in our space program have <br /> marked an exciting chapter in the history of man's <br /> most important technical and scientific achieve- <br /> ments. The vigorous dedication of GERALD P. CARR <br /> and all of his colleagues has set a proud example <br /> for this community and the Nation in peaceful <br /> accomplishments we may attain for the benefit of <br /> the entire world. <br /> <br />The City of Santa Ana extends to ASTRONAUT GERALD <br />P. CARR and to his family its grateful appreciation <br />and sincere wishes for a future as illuminating and <br />fulfilling as his illustrious past. <br /> <br />PASSED AND <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Santa <br />Ana at its Adjourned Regular Meeting held on the <br />llth day of March, 1974. <br /> <br /> <br />
