CITY OF SANTA ANA <br /> <br />BLACKSMITH-WELDER <br /> <br />pEFINITION <br /> <br />Under general supervision, performs skilled acetylene and electric welding work <br />in the fabrication and repair of machinery and rolling equipment along with <br />general blacksmithing duties. <br /> <br />EXA/4PLES OF DUTIES <br /> <br />Cuts and welds metal using a variety of related tools and welding rod materials; <br />performs shop and field repair welding on equipment and machinery; maintains <br />oxy-acetylene tanks and mixer valves and welding equipment to insure their safe <br />operation; does sheet metal work and mechanical repair involved in fabricating <br />a variety oi articles including crane boom sections, truck beds, tool boxes, <br />and racks; sharpens and retempers jack hammer gads and spades; performs related <br />duties as required. <br /> <br />DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS <br /> <br />Under general supervision performs varied difficult and creative welding and <br />blaeksmithing activities requiring a substantial amount of creativity in the <br />common absence of plans. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS <br /> <br />Completion of tenth grade and four years' full-time experience as a journeyman <br />Blacksmith-Welder or any equivalent combination of training and experience <br />which provide the following knowledge, skills and abilities: <br /> <br />Thorough knowledge of: the use of equipment and techniques employed in welding, <br />brazing and hard facing and in cleaning, brushing and grinding welds. Knowledge <br />of: the working properties of metal; occupational hazards of the trade and <br />appropriate precautionary measures. Skill in: the use of equipment and techni- <br />ques utilized in blacksmith welding. Ability to: interpret plans and to work <br />from rough sketches and samples; make estimates of material requirements. <br /> <br />Special Requiremcnts: Possession of a valid California Driver.'s License. Possession <br />of a basic set of hand tools utilized in the blacksmith-welding trade. <br /> <br /> <br />
