RESOLUTION NO. 7~-154 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA <br />URGING A NO VOTE ON PROPOSITION 17 BY ALL CITIZENS OF THE <br />STATE OF CALIFORNIA <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the passage of Proposition 17 on the November 5, 197~ ballot <br />will stop construction of the New Melones Reservoir Project on the Stanislaus <br />River, and; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the New Melones D~mwill prevent flooding on the lower Stanlslaus <br />River that has historically resulted in d~age of $1,900,000 annually and the <br />project will conserve 225,000 acre feet of water annually for municipal, <br />industrial, and agricultural use with an annual benefit of $3.6 million, <br />and; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the project power plant will produce ~30 million kilowatt hours of <br />hydro-electric power annually which will provide enough power to meet the domestic <br />needs for a community of 200,000, and; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the project will allow the development of 55 miles of the lower <br />Stanislaus River for parks, campgrounds, fishing, and protection of 3500 acres <br />and the proposed recreational facilities will increase the potential recreational <br />use from 80,000 to 4,000,000 man days annually, and; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the New Melones Dam has been approved by the State of California <br />Department of Water Resources, the United States Bureau of Sports Fisheries and <br />Wildlife, the California Water Resources Association, the Yokuts Wilderness Group <br />of the Sierra Club in Modesto, the Mother Lode Chapter of the Sierra Club in <br />Sacramento and the California Labor Federation AFL-CIO; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of the City of <br />Santa Aha urges a NO vote on Proposition 17 by all citizens of the State of California. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the City Council of the City of Santa Ana does <br />hereby support the City of Modesto in taking this positive position against Propsi- <br />tion 17. <br /> <br /> PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Santa Aha at its <br />regular meeting held on the l~th day of October, 197h. <br /> <br />STATE OF CALIFORNIA) <br />COUNTY OF ORANGE ) <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA ) <br /> <br />SS <br /> <br /> I, FLORENCE I.
